Job Description

Job Summary

Aviation Search Group has partnered with an internationally known airport service-provider to identify their next Director of Airport Projects! This position will play a critical role in the leadership of major capital projects across their portfolio of airport partners. This position can be worked remotely, assuming your are located near a major airport.

Provides senior leadership for the development and execution of capital projects across a geographically dispersed portfolio of commercial facilities. This position is responsible for establishing effective project delivery practices, overseeing capital planning and budgets, and providing leadership for major construction, infrastructure, and technology-related initiatives. The Director will ensure projects are appropriately planned, resourced, executed, and completed in accordance with established schedules, budgets, safety standards, and applicable regulatory and contractual requirements.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead and develop a team of project management professionals responsible for the execution of projects across multiple locations.

Provide strategic direction for the organization's capital project planning and delivery activities.

Allocate projects and resources among project managers while coordinating support from internal departments and outside partners.

Establish consistent approaches to project planning, estimating, design, procurement, construction, commissioning, documentation, and closeout.

Oversee capital budgets, forecasts, expenditures, commitments, and project pipelines to ensure effective financial management.

Develop and implement project management processes, controls, and reporting practices that improve consistency and accountability.

Provide senior leadership with regular updates regarding project status, financial performance, risks, schedules, and resource requirements.

Review and approve project scopes, budgets, schedules, contractor recommendations, and significant changes to approved project plans.

Provide direct leadership on large, complex, high-priority, or strategically significant projects.

Participate in proposals, contract discussions, renewals, site evaluations, transition activities, capital planning, and other business-development initiatives as needed.

Serve as a senior point of contact for customers, facility representatives, contractors, engineers, vendors, and internal stakeholders.

Develop and maintain relationships with qualified contractors, engineering firms, manufacturers, technology providers, and other project partners.

Ensure projects comply with applicable security, permitting, safety, operational, regulatory, and contractual requirements.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Extensive knowledge of capital construction, engineering, project development, and program management, preferably within complex operating environments.

Strong knowledge of construction documentation, estimating, procurement, permitting, scheduling, project controls, change management, and contractor administration.

Familiarity with technology infrastructure and related installations, including display systems, audiovisual equipment, electrical systems, communications networks, and structural components.

Strong leadership, negotiation, communication, presentation, and problem-solving capabilities.

Demonstrated financial acumen, including experience managing capital budgets, forecasts, commitments, and cost controls.

Ability to manage multiple complex projects, budgets, contractors, and stakeholder groups simultaneously.

Ability to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels of an organization and represent the company with customers and external stakeholders.

Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate project risks, schedules, budgets, and resource requirements.

Ability to establish and maintain productive relationships with customers, government agencies, vendors, engineering firms, contractors, and other external partners.

Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and mentor project management personnel.

Ability to establish consistent project management practices across a geographically dispersed organization.

Strong negotiating skills with the ability to manage technical scopes, vendor agreements, contracts, and project changes.

Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Required:

Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, architecture, project management, business, or a related discipline (or equivalent relevant experience).

Minimum of 12 years of progressively responsible experience in project development, construction, engineering, capital planning, or program management.

Significant experience managing major construction, infrastructure, or technology projects in complex operating environments.

Demonstrated experience managing multi-million-dollar capital programs from initial planning through completion.

Experience with technology infrastructure, display systems, audiovisual systems, electrical systems, communications networks, structural components, or comparable installations.

Preferred:

Master's degree in Business, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related discipline.

Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Construction Manager (CCM), or Professional Engineer (PE) license.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

Primary work environment is an office setting with regular visits to operating locations and project sites.

Physical demands include seeing (including reading and color distinction), sitting, standing, walking, reaching, talking, and turning.

Additional physical demands include lifting, moving, pulling, and pushing loads of up to 10 pounds.

Ability to work outside standard business hours when required by operational requirements, project schedules, or other business needs.

Travel is expected to exceed 50% and will include frequent air travel to operating locations and project sites throughout the country.
