Community Outreach Specialist KEMRON Environmental Services, Inc. United States, Tennessee, Chattanooga May 01, 2026
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Community Outreach Specialist supports stakeholder communication and outreach efforts for KEMRON environmental remediation and federal project work in the Chattanooga, Tennessee area. This role helps coordinate communication with residents, businesses, local officials, and other stakeholders regarding project activities, schedules, and community impacts.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/FUNCTIONS OF POSITION
Coordinate community outreach activities for environmental remediation, hazardous waste cleanup, and related project work. Assist with preparing and distributing public notices, fact sheets, project updates, mailers, flyers, and other community outreach materials. Support communication with residents, business owners, community representatives, local officials, regulatory agencies, and other project stakeholders. Coordinate logistics for community meetings, public information sessions, stakeholder briefings, and related outreach events. Work with project managers, technical staff, and leadership to ensure public-facing communications are accurate, clear, and consistent with project requirements. Respond to routine community and stakeholder questions and direct technical, regulatory, or sensitive inquiries to the appropriate project personnel. Maintain records of outreach efforts, stakeholder communications, meeting notes, correspondence, and related project documentation. Help identify community concerns, questions, or issues that may affect project progress and communicate those concerns to the project team. Support efforts to minimize misunderstandings, complaints, or project delays through proactive communication and professional stakeholder engagement. Assist with project communications regarding work schedules, site activity updates, temporary disruptions, access limitations, safety-related notices, and other community-impact information as needed.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Public Affairs, Journalism, Environmental Studies, Political Science, or a related field; or equivalent relevant experience Minimum of two (2) years of experience in community outreach, stakeholder engagement, public communication, project coordination, or a related field Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with the public, clients, agencies, and internal project teams Ability to handle sensitive or high-visibility communications in a professional and composed manner Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint Must be able to pass a background check, drug screening, and motor vehicle record check, as required for the position or project assignment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work may be performed in an office setting, at project sites, and at public or stakeholder meeting locations. May require occasional local or overnight travel depending on project needs. Must be able to manage multiple priorities, respond to changing project schedules, and maintain professionalism in sensitive or high-pressure situations. Must understand and comply with corporate and worksite Health and Safety Plan(s) as required. Must be willing to work from a local project site office or jobsite trailer as needed.
