09/23/2026 Closing Date 10/18/2026 11:59 PM Mountain Position Announcement The Biotechnology Program at Utah Tech University (UT), within the Department of Biological Sciences, is starting an NSF funded BioLaunch program in the 2026-27 academic year. We are seeking a Research Mentor & Industry Coordinator to support BioLaunch by providing mentorship, laboratory support, and industry connections for BioLaunch student teams. Key responsibilities include mentoring BioLaunch student teams in research projects, laboratory techniques, troubleshooting, and project development, providing laboratory supervision and access outside of scheduled BioLaunch course hours, and supporting students as they work through challenges associated with their projects. The position will also coordinate industry engagement, guest speakers, industry partnerships, conferences, and student travel experiences, including visits to biotechnology companies and emerging technology hubs. The successful candidate will report to the Biotechnology Program Coordinator and collaborate with BioLaunch faculty, students, industry partners, and university personnel to provide a strong, industry-connected learning environment. The position will help students develop the technical, professional, entrepreneurial, and problem-solving skills needed for success in biotechnology while providing meaningful connections to the biotechnology industry. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to the growth of the BioLaunch program while helping prepare students for careers in biotechnology, biomedical research, entrepreneurship, and related fields through hands-on research mentorship and industry engagement. Responsibilities Laboratory Management Provide support and mentorship for BioLaunch student projects, and provide staffing and supervision for the lab outside of the BioLaunch course times. Maintain and order supplies, lab ware, and instruments essential to the operation of BioLaunch program. Keep accurate records and analyze and report relevant data. Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs). Others Work with department faculty to maintain a safe and productive laboratory environment. Attend department meetings; work with other faculty and staff in program management and adhere to university policies. Connect to industry partners, coordinate guest speakers, and plan travel trips including the Bio Conference visit, as well as PI travel to existing and emerging tech hubs. Work with Department Chair, Dean, Biotechnology program coordinator and other faculty in the Biological Sciences department on curriculum and program development. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications A Bachelor's degree in Biology or a closely related discipline from an accredited college or university, along with a minimum of three years of hands-on experience in mammalian cell culture, is required. A Master's degree in Biology or a closely related discipline from an accredited college or university is preferred. Teaching or training experience in a laboratory setting. Familiarity with safety standards and regulations as they pertain to biology laboratory work. Administrative skills in maintaining records, ordering lab materials and booking travel Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills. Willingness to work with and assist faculty and student teaching assistants. Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities. An eagerness to engage with colleagues, staff, and administrators to develop ways to improve the educational experience of UT students. Supplemental Information
POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
: Part-time Grant funded 3-year position, 12-month professional staff (overtime-exempt) position of 25 hours perweek. Starting hourly rate of $28/hr.
