Job Description
VICE PRESIDENT FOR STUDENT AFFAIRS
The University of South Alabama seeks an accomplished student affairs leader to serve as Vice President for Student Affairs. Reporting to the Executive Vice President and Provost serving as a member of the senior cabinet, the Vice President provides executive leadership for a comprehensive division central to the University's enrollment growth, retention, and student success goals. The University of South Alabama is a doctoral research university enrolling more than 14,000 students across eleven colleges and schools in Mobile, Alabama. As the only academic medical center along the upper Gulf Coast, South occupies a distinctive institutional role and is pursuing an ambitious vision as a coastal flagship university under President Jo Bonner. Approximately 42 percent of undergraduates receive Pell Grant aid, more than a third of enrolled students are over 25, and the University's strategic plan places Student Success and Access at the top of its institutional priorities. The Division of Student Affairs is a broad enterprise encompassing student life and engagement, counseling and wellness, housing and residence life, campus recreation, student health, disability services, Title IX coordination, fraternity and sorority life, student conduct, and auxiliary operations including dining, the bookstore, and campus mail. The Vice President oversees a team of more than 50 full-time professionals and carries responsibility for a division whose work directly shapes student retention and degree completion. The successful candidate will hold an earned doctorate and bring substantial progressive experience in student affairs leadership at a doctoral-granting institution. A demonstrated record of building student success infrastructure, managing complex multi-unit organizations, and partnering across academic and administrative divisions is expected. The University seeks a leader who brings both strategic vision and operational command — someone with a student-centered ethos and the institutional credibility to serve effectively at the cabinet level. Experience aligning student services with the needs of a diverse student body where all students "find their place", and contributing meaningfully to the University's enrollment growth goals. Applications, nominations, and inquiries should be directed to the search firm contact listed below. Review of candidates will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. Interested parties are encouraged to submit their materials to our consultant at the address below by October 1 for full consideration.
