Job Description

Hiring Salary Range $17.00/per hour Not Eligible for Benefits This is a part-time, temporary position not eligible for benefits. Work Schedule Monday-Friday between the hours of 8:00am-5:00pm; schedule cannot exceed 19.5 hours/week. Job Summary Student Life is looking to hire a Federal Work Study student to begin in Fall 2026. The Community Outreach Assistant will focus on community outreach, on-campus resource promotion, and maintaining a supportive environment within the Center for Student Life. The role includes customer service, event support, and resource management, with a special emphasis on serving students through the Gecko Grocery, Clothing Boutique, St. Mary's Food Distribution (biweekly on Tuesdays) and other basic needs programs. Additional Information In order to qualify for a Federal Work-Study (FWS) job, a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) must be on file for the current award year and have eligible financial needs based on the college requirements. Please contact the Office of Financial Aid for more information prior to applying to a Federal Work-Study job. FWS is a need-based, federally funded program. FWS requires the completion of a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), and confirmation of federal work-study eligibility as determined by the financial aid office. FWS does not directly pay for tuition, and funds are only available to eligible students attending a minimum of six (6) degree applicable hours in a federal student aid eligible program. The FWS award amount is based on your FAFSA results and college funding availability, which will determine the number of hours available to work while supporting the students academic goals. For more detailed information, please go to the MCCCD Federal Work-Study Website Essential Functions Assists with programming and outreach for Conexión participants, focused on wellness, student success, and resource awareness. Builds and maintains relationships with local organizations and service providers to support students' basic needs. Connects students with community and on-campus resources; follows up to ensure students receive necessary support. Maintains confidentiality and fosters a safe, welcoming environment for students in need. Keeps up-to-date directories and records of available student services and community partners. Assists with tracking and maintaining inventory in the Gecko Grocery, Clothing Boutique, and Serenity Room. Supports biweekly food distribution events in partnership with St. Mary's Food Bank every other Tuesday during the school year. Helps full-time staff with data collection and reporting related to outreach activities and student usage of services. Greets visitors, provides excellent customer service, and ensure proper conduct within the Center. Monitors and maintains common spaces, including the laundry room, conference room, and student lounge. Prints posters, places sidewalk signs, and regularly updates the Community Resource Bulletin Board. Disinfects and organizes shared spaces, cleans literature racks, wipes down glass cases, and operates the popcorn machine. Enforces center policies (e.g., no food/drink near furniture and game areas). Minimum Qualifications Must be enrolled in 6 credit hours or more at GateWay, have unmet financial need, and meet Satisfactory Academic Progress standards. Desired Qualifications Interest in social services, community outreach, and/or student affairs. Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills. Reliable, organized, and respectful of confidentiality. Ability to work independently and collaboratively. Technical knowledge of Google Workspace and/or Microsoft Office products. Special Working Conditions Will be required to travel or be assigned to all MCCCD locations May require numerous evenings or weekends May require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen May be required to lift or carry up to #25 lbs MCCCD does not sponsor individuals for any type of work visas.
