JOB OPPORTUNITY
Community Service Officer Part-Time
  • Police Department The Village is accepting applications for a part-time Community Service Officer in the Police Department.
This position assists patrol officers with non-active calls for service by preparing reports, assisting motorists, collecting information, and managing general service calls. Additional responsibilities include ensuring compliance with municipal parking ordinances through accurate enforcement of the Village code and ordinances. A successful candidate will be able to conduct investigations into complaints and minor crimes, be proficient with technical software, and have strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Major Duties and Functions:
  • Responds to walk-in requests for service and to on-scene calls for service, including but not limited to theft, motor accidents, and criminal damage
  • Prepares reports on theft, motor accidents, criminal damages, and other service calls
  • Performs routine patrols
  • Patrols assigned areas for enforcement of the Village's municipal parking code
  • Assists motorists with disabled cars and lockouts
  • Educates parents and childcare givers on child car seats and performs car seat installations
  • Assists with School Crossing Guard duties
  • Assists with a variety of administrative duties in the Police Department
  • Other miscellaneous duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required:
  • Interpersonal skills required to communicate with accident and crime victims and offenders
  • Ability to comprehend and apply Village ordinances
  • Use of good judgment in high-pressure situations
  • Maintains composure and professionalism in high-pressure situations
  • Ability to present testimony in court
  • Ability to use a laptop computer for reading, writing, and data entry
  • Analytical skills necessary to use parking citation software and issue citations via a laptop
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED required, accompanied by two to five years of general work experience. A combination of education and experience that produces the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is also acceptable.
Licenses and Certifications:
Valid Illinois Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record.
Certifications required after hire:
First Aid, CPR/AED, Child Safety Technician, LEADS Shift Details:
Afternoon shift, Tuesday through Friday, 2:00 pm
  • 8:00 pm, with occasional Saturday work for special events.
Salary and Benefits:
The full hourly range is $27.12
  • $37.
29, with a maximum starting salary of $32.55, dependent on qualifications. Although part time, this position qualifies for participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF). Review the Part Time Benefits Summary (page 5) for additional details.
