Job Description

Youth Care Director Youth Care Director oversees the daily operations and staff, ensuring a safe, nurturing, and compliant environment for youth. The role balances administrative duties, staff leadership, and direct oversight of youth care and programming. Responsibilities
  • Staff supervision and management
  • Recruitment and training: Hire new child care workers and provide ongoing training and professional development to ensure a high level of competency.
Scheduling:
Create and manage staff schedules to ensure proper coverage and maintain mandated staff-to-resident ratios at all times.
  • Performance management: Conduct performance evaluations and provide regular feedback to direct care staff.
Discipline:
Counsel staff on compliance with agency policies and procedures. Resident care and programming
  • Daily routines: Ensure the orderly and punctual flow of daily activities, including wake-up, meals, school, homework, recreation, and bedtime.
  • Individual care plans: Oversee the development and implementation of individualized care or service plans for each child to promote their physical, emotional, and educational development.
  • Activity coordination: Develop and implement developmentally appropriate activities and recreational programs, which may include field trips and community involvement.
  • Well-being monitoring: Screen and assess residents; physical and mental health needs and monitor their overall well-being.
  • Crisis intervention: Handle emergencies and behavioral crises, coordinating appropriate interventions. Operational and administrative duties
  • Regulatory compliance: Ensure the group home operates in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, licensing requirements, and organizational policies.
  • Record keeping: Maintain accurate and confidential records, including resident files, incident reports, shift logs, and all necessary documentation.
Budgeting:
Manage the home's operational budget, including tracking expenses, managing petty cash, and ordering supplies.
    Maintenance:
    Regularly inspect the facility to ensure it is clean, hazard-free, and well-maintained, and report any repair needs. Communication and collaboration
    • Liaison activities: Act as a liaison between staff, residents, families, guardians, social workers, and other external agencies.
    Reporting:
    Prepare management reports and communicate effectively with supervisors and management.
    • Interagency coordination: Coordinate services and share information with outside agencies involved in a resident's care.
    • Family engagement: Communicate regularly with parents or guardians regarding a child's progress, concerns, and needs. Qualifications and skills
    Education:
    A bachelor's degree in a human services field such as social work, psychology, or child development is typically preferred, though some positions may accept an associate's degree or a high school diploma with extensive experience.
      Experience:
      Previous supervisory or management experience, preferably in a residential or group home setting, is required. At least one year of direct care experience with children or individuals with disabilities is also necessary.
        Leadership:
        Strong leadership skills are essential for supervising staff and effectively implementing policies.
          Communication:
          Excellent verbal and written communication skills are needed to interact with staff, residents, families, and outside agencies.
            Problem-solving:
            The ability to address and resolve problems or conflicts is crucial for managing the day-to-day operations of the home.
              Certifications:
              First aid and CPR certifications are often required, and specific licenses or certifications related to medication administration may be necessary.
