LOCATION OF POSITION
\r\n\r\n\r\nDJS Victor Cullen Center, 6000 Cullen Dr, Sabillasville, MD 21780 (Frederick County)\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Main Purpose of Job \r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nJoin Us in Making a Difference at DJS!�\r\nA DJS Residential Group Life Manager II is the second one of\r\ntwo levels of managerial work providing supervision and guidance to youth\r\nresiding in a facility operated by the Department of Juvenile Services.\r\nEmployees in this classification oversee all services of a facility, except\r\nadministration, such as direct care, intake and electronic reporting. Employees\r\nmay function as the Assistant Director of the facility. Employees in this\r\nclassification supervise DJS Residential Group Life Manager I positions.\r\nThe GLM II will provide direct supervision, guidance, and\r\nsupport to subordinate staff and female youth residing in a hardware-secure\r\njuvenile facility with a committed treatment program. The position is\r\nresponsible for maintaining a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment\r\nwhile promoting positive behavior, accountability, skill development, and\r\nparticipation in treatment and programming.\r\nThe GLM II should have a genuine interest in working with\r\nyouth, particularly the female youth population and be\r\ncommitted to building positive, respectful, and supportive relationships with\r\nthem. Experience or training and general knowledge in gender-responsive\r\nprogramming, trauma-informed care, or other gender-specific interventions is a\r\nplus. The GLM 2 will work collaboratively with\r\nadministration, facility staff, education and behavioral\r\nhealth to support youth development, reinforce treatment goals, and help\r\nprepare youth for a successful transition back to the community.\r\n\r\n\r\nEmployees in this classification receive managerial\r\nsupervision from a DJS Assistant Superintendent Residential Facility,\r\ndesignated administrator or higher-level manager charged with directing the\r\noperation of the facility. Employees may be required to work evenings, weekends\r\nand holidays. Employees may be subject to call-in on a twenty-four hour basis\r\nbased on staffing needs. The DJS Residential Group Life Manager II oversees all\r\nservices of the facility except administration and has supervisory responsibility\r\nfor DJS Residential Group Manager I (the shift commander).\r\n\r\n\r\n
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.\r\n\r\n\r\n
Experience:
Five years of experience providing supervision and guidance to youth in a juvenile facility or juvenile services community program for at-risk youth.\r\n\r\n\r\n
Notes:
\r\n\r\n\r\n1. The educational and certification requirements are set by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission in accordance with the Correctional Services Article, Section 8-209, Annotated Code of Maryland.\r\n\r\n\r\n2. Candidates may substitute possession an Associate of Arts degree in Criminal Justice or the social or behavioral sciences from an accredited college or university or sixty credit hours from an accredited college or university, including 15 hours in criminal justice or the social or behavioral sciences for one year of the required experience.\r\n\r\n\r\n3. Candidates may substitute possession a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice or the social or behavioral sciences from an accredited college or university for two years of the required experience.\r\n\r\n\r\n4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Correctional Officer classifications or Correctional Officer specialty codes in the Miscellaneous Occupations field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.\r\n
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nThe\r\nideal candidate will have five years' experience supervising employees in the\r\nperformance of work in a secure juvenile setting.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nThis recruitment is limited to current employees of the\r\nMaryland Department of Juvenile Services.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
1.Candidates who have not already done so must complete\r\nand successfully pass the Entrance Level Correctional Training Course for DJS\r\nstaff required for the Maryland Correctional Training Commission certificate\r\nwithin 365 days of initial appointment or placement in this classification\r\naccording to Code of Maryland Regulations 12.10.01.03. Employees are required\r\nto maintain certification while employed.�\r\n2. Employees in this classification may be assigned\r\nduties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such\r\nduties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in\r\nthe State of Maryland.�\r\n\r\n\r\n3. Employees in this classification that are employed at\r\nDJS Youth Centers may be required to complete a Board approved medication\r\ntechnician training program and possess a valid Maryland Board of Nursing\r\n(MBON) certification as a Medication Technician.\r\n
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS 1.
In accordance with the Correctional Services Article,\r\nSection 8-209 of the Annotated Code of Maryland, the Maryland Correctional\r\nTraining Commission shall establish the minimum qualifications for probationary\r\nor permanent appointment of a Department of Juvenile Services employee in a\r\nmandated position. These requirements are listed in detail in the Code of\r\nMaryland Regulations 12.10.01.04, general regulations of the Maryland\r\nCorrectional Training Commission, and include:��\r\nU.S. Citizenship or Resident Alien status\r\nMust be at least 21 years of age\r\nA thorough background check, including fingerprinting and\r\ndrug testing\r\nAn oral interview, and\r\nPhysical and psychological examinations.�\r\n2. Employees in this classification are subject to\r\nsubstance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations\r\n17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.�\r\n
