Residential Lending and Financing Officer - Melville, NY BankUnited United States, York, Melville Aug 28, 2026 JOB SUMMARY The Residential Lending and Financing Officer serves as an experienced member of the team supporting the Bank's Residential Loan Portfolio and Mortgage Warehouse Lending businesses. The role combines portfolio management, first-line credit and counterparty risk management, relationship management, and business execution to support the continued growth, profitability, and sound risk management of both business lines. This individual acts as a key business partner to the senior managers responsible for these businesses and is responsible for helping manage correspondent and warehouse lending relationships, evaluating loan purchase and warehouse lending opportunities, monitoring portfolio and counterparty performance, coordinating with servicers, vendors, and internal stakeholders, and supporting strategic and operational initiatives across both platforms. The successful candidate will represent the Bank within the residential mortgage industry while developing a broad understanding of all aspects of the business, including lending, credit, operations, risk management, and client relationship management.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Support the growth, profitability, and overall performance of the Bank's multi-billion Residential Loan Portfolio and Mortgage Warehouse Lending businesses.
  • Support strategic initiatives, product enhancements, technology implementations, and other projects designed to improve business performance and client experience.
  • Learn the financial, operational, and contractual aspects of the businesses in a high visibility role.
  • Manage and support warehouse lending and correspondent relationships, serving as a primary point of contact for some clients and counterparties.
  • Monitor portfolio performance, utilization, concentrations, profitability, and other key business and risk metrics.
  • Evaluate and recommend loan purchase and warehouse lending opportunities.
  • Coordinate with internal and external resources to manage the loan and warehouse pipelines.
  • Participate in underwriting, due diligence, transaction structuring, pricing discussions, and approval processes for new and existing opportunities.
  • Coordinate with servicers, custodians, vendors, auditors, and other third-party providers to support the effective operation of both business lines.
  • Work closely with Credit, Risk Management, Finance, Treasury, Operations, Compliance, and other internal stakeholders to support business objectives and ensure sound risk management practices.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of systems, operational workflows, reporting processes, and third-party service providers and identify opportunities for improvement, automation, and increased efficiency.
  • Help ensure that operational infrastructure, reporting capabilities, and business processes remain scalable and effective as the businesses grow.
Adheres to and complies with applicable, federal and state laws, regulations and guidance, including those related to anti-money laundering (i.e. Bank Secrecy Act, US PATRIOT Act, etc.). Adheres to Bank policies and procedures and completes required training. Identifies and reports suspicious activity.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Supervises function, projects or services and/or one or more employees, as applicable.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance coaching; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Coordinates with internal and external resources to manage the loan and warehouse pipelines.
  • Manages and trains people on the team.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
  • Bachelor's degree required. Experience
  • 5+ years of experience in mortgage originations, mortgage operations, legal or contract review, loan servicing, loan underwriting, mortgage financing or warehousing, loan acquisition, commercial counterparty credit, or accounting roles required.
  • 10+ years preferred Additional Information Candidates residing in locations within BankUnited's footprint may be given preference.
