Job Description
Director of Downtown Development Build Community. Inspire Collaboration. Shape the Future of Downtown Morristown. The Morristown Area Chamber of Commerce is seeking an energetic, relationship-driven leader to serve as our Director of Downtown Development. This position is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys bringing people together, building partnerships, and creating memorable experiences that strengthen our historic downtown. Working as a key member of the Chamber team, the Director of Downtown Development will lead initiatives that support the continued growth and vitality of Downtown Morristown while collaborating closely with Chamber leadership, local businesses, volunteers, government partners, property owners, residents, and community organizations. Success in this role depends on a collaborative mindset, creative problem-solving, and a passion for serving the community. This position reports directly to the President & General Manager of the Morristown Area Chamber of Commerce and works in partnership with the entire Chamber staff to implement the organization's strategic vision. What You'll Do As the Director of Downtown Development, you will champion the National Main Street Four-Point Approach—Organization, Economic Vitality, Design, and Promotion—while leading initiatives that make Downtown Morristown a vibrant place to live, work, shop, and visit. Leadership & Collaboration Work alongside Chamber leadership and staff to implement the Chamber's Business Plan and downtown strategic initiatives. Foster strong partnerships with downtown businesses, property owners, city and county leaders, nonprofit organizations, residents, and community stakeholders. Serve as a connector who brings people together around shared goals and opportunities. Recruit, inspire, and support volunteers who help advance downtown programs and events. Maintain Tennessee and National Main Street accreditation standards. Program & Event Management Manage and grow the Morristown Farmers Market. Coordinate and market the Summer Concert Series at the Farmers Market Green Space. Collaborate with Chamber staff to organize the annual Christmas Parade and other signature downtown events. Develop innovative programming that enhances the downtown experience throughout the year. Prepare and administer budgets for downtown programs and events. Marketing & Community Engagement Lead communications for Downtown Morristown through social media, website content, press releases, newsletters, and other marketing platforms. Promote downtown businesses, events, and initiatives with creativity and enthusiasm. Serve as a positive ambassador for Downtown Morristown throughout the community. Strategic Development Collaborate with Chamber leadership to establish annual goals and priorities. Pursue grants, sponsorships, and fundraising opportunities that strengthen downtown programming and long-term sustainability. Develop and implement work plans that advance downtown revitalization efforts. Monitor budgets, evaluate program success, and identify opportunities for continuous improvement. Prepare contracts and service agreements as needed. What We're Looking For The ideal candidate is someone who thrives in a collaborative environment and enjoys building lasting relationships.
