The Division of Student Affairs works for and alongside students to create the distinctive student experience for which UVA is known. The University's mission to develop engaged citizen-leaders is the foundation of the Division's work. Members of the Division do this work guided by six core values - academic rigor, diversity and inclusion, health and wellness, honor, public service and student self-governance. The Division consists of over 300 employees within four units: the Office of the Vice President and Chief Student Affairs Officer, the Office of the Dean of Students, Housing and Residence Life, and Student Health and Wellness. The position is an in-person, full-time, twelve-month University Managerial and Professional Staff position with benefits. The Program Coordinator position is a restricted position with a three-year term. Job Responsibilities The Program Coordinator in the Office of the Vice President and Chief Student Affairs Officer (VPCSAO) serves as a utility player for the office, supporting senior leadership, including the Vice President, across four major areas of responsibility: Meriwether Lewis Institute for Citizen Leadership. Execute the program's operations, including summer institute planning, logistics, participant year-round support, and day-to-day program management.
Fourth Year Trustees. Serve as advisor to the Fourth-Year Trustees, providing guidance and support as they plan and carry out their initiatives.
L2K Leadership Development Program. Support program delivery, including coordinating sessions, working with student participants, and helping the program run smoothly.
Student Affairs Awards and Honors. Manage the selection processes for the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award, the Distinguished Student Award, Student Member of the BOV Selection, and Lawn Resident selection for Crispell and the Good Guy Rooms. Beyond these core programs, the role includes broader programmatic, student support, and administrative responsibilities. On the programmatic side, this position supports student outreach and engagement initiatives led by the Vice President's Office, including fundraising initiatives and other student engagement opportunities. Much of this work involves supporting students as they design and implement their own programs and initiatives, rather than managing programs directly. Student support responsibilities include mentoring, training, and coaching student leaders; helping students work through problems; and responding appropriately to challenges or crises. This involves both formal and informal interaction with students, including meeting with students facing interpersonal conflict, psychological concerns, or other issues to counsel, mediate resolutions, or set expectations for future behavior, as well as responding to related questions from parents, faculty, or staff. The role also carries administrative and incident response duties, including analyzing, synthesizing, and reporting data; assisting AVPs, deans, or other senior leadership with administrative matters; and completing special projects and assignments as needed. The Program Coordinator may also be asked to support the University or state government in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
