Priority Referrals of Protected Veterans Requested Company Overview & Mission Columbus House opened its doors in 1982 to provide services for men and women at least 18 years of age. Our goals quickly broadened from the mere provision of food and shelter and simple survival, to understanding and working toward overcoming the problems which cause people to become homeless. Columbus House, along with its core of loyal supporters, friends, and volunteers, has remained committed to fulfilling its mission: "To serve people experiencing homelessness or at imminent risk by providing life-saving outreach, shelter and housing and by fostering their personal growth and independence. We advocate for and create affordable housing to end homelessness in our communities." Objective The Director of Middlesex and Veteran Services serves as a critical member of Columbus House's Program Management Team. In collaboration with the CPO, the Director of Middlesex and Veteran Services will oversee the portfolio of programs and related services specific to: Supportive Services for Veterans and Families; MMW Shelter and Outreach;
MMW SOAR
; and Harkness House. The Director also evaluates the effectiveness of programs to provide ongoing feedback; provides mentoring, guidance, supervision, and professional development to supervisees; and enhances the structure of the organization by staying abreast of developments in the homeless assistance sector. Qualifications Bachelor's Degree required and a minimum of five years relevant work experience in a social service, mental health, or substance abuse agency. Demonstrated ability to manage, motivate, teach/mentor and supervise managers and/or direct service staff. Passion for mission and purpose-driven organization and an ability to communicate this passion to others, particularly employees. Knowledge of Motivational Interviewing, Person-Centered-Planning, Harm Reduction, Trauma Informed and Gender Specific Care and Housing First philosophies and models. Must be intimately familiar with and possess a comprehensive working knowledge of all aspects of employment, employment resources, entitlement programs, vocational and career development programs and all related activities that lead to earning income. Comprehensive working knowledge of all aspects of the delivery of trauma-informed case management and crisis intervention services for the homeless population as well as knowledge of the mental health, substance abuse and related treatment networks, local housing options and relevant vocational/entitlement programs Demonstrated ability to analyze and compile complex data for planning and reporting purposes. Computer and data management literate Strong relationship builder with the ability to find common ground, build consensus and strengthen collaboration among diverse stakeholders. Familiarity with policies and procedures around cultural competency and confidentiality Best practice knowledge specific to Motivational Interviewing, Harm Reduction strategies and Housing First Demonstrated commitment to the values of diversity, inclusiveness and empowerment and emotional intelligence. Valid drivers' license with a good driving history and daily access to an automobile Responsibilities In coordination with the Chief Program Officer, play a key role in the overall development, strategic planning, service delivery, and management of Middlesex and Veteran Services programs. Directly supervise three managers and one coordinator providing skill development and guidance on how to troubleshoot program and staff performance challenges. Deploy and monitor program budgets and resources efficiently and effectively toward organizational goals, working with the managers to balance workload and effort, and provide regular feedback so that they can continuously improve their supervision and mentoring skills. Create and support a high performing culture in the department aligned with core values. Develop a team-based environment to motivate and inspire staff to work collaboratively toward vision and goal, by clearly communicating agency vision, implementing yearly staff development plans, and mentoring. Establish annual departmental and manager goals and objectives and track results against these goals as well as accountability protocols. Participate in the budget development process and maintain a high level of fiscal responsibility. Represent Middlesex and Veteran Services programs on relevant committees and task forces. Monitor emerging needs of key stakeholders (funders), clients, and employees. Program Oversight and Evaluation Oversee the coordination, integration, and delivery of all programs, contracts, and related services specific to the Middlesex and Veteran Services programs, promoting collaborative relationships between program areas and ensuring that the expectations of funders, partners, constituents, clients, and other stakeholders are consistently met. As requested by the Chief Program Officer, provide data, and participate in responding to government and foundation requests for information and/or applications; coordinate planning and activities necessary for development of model program designs in response to RFPs and RFQs Ensure the delivery of qualitative and quantitative goals and outcomes of programs and services. Coordinate and analyze the appropriate data to inform the programmatic and operational decision-making process. Determine staffing plans to achieve program goals and objectives and participate in hiring decisions for new program staff. Deepen existing and/or create new performance and outcome measures that address efficiency, effectiveness, and quality assurance demands. Analyze and assess programs based on data collected and implement corrective measures as required. Other related duties as assigned. Supervised by :
