- Work closely with the PIO/Communications Specialist to manage crisis and risk communications response during public health disaster/emergency situations (including epidemiological, emergency preparedness, and environmental health-related incidents) for eight-county public health district.
- Maintain an updated crisis and emergency risk communication plan.
- Plan, develop, and produce a comprehensive public information campaign for the emergency preparedness program (including but not limited to hurricane preparedness and the Hurricane Registry for those with functional, access, and medical needs).
- Participate in emergency preparedness training and exercises.
- Serve as primary contact for media inquiries for the eight-county health district. May occasionally include responding to after-hours media calls or emergency situations.
- Manage social media platforms and websites (external and intranet) to communicate timely, actionable information.
- Create printed and digital educational materials with targeted public health messaging regarding health risks, healthy behaviors, and public health programs. Competency in Canva, Hootsuite, WordPress, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Premiere Pro preferred but not required.
- Simplify complex scientific information into accessible content for press releases, web posts and social media campaigns to influence public behavior, manage crises, and improve community health outcomes. Exceptional writing, editing, and public speaking skills are a must.
- Build coalitions, attend meetings, and work with community partners to promote collaborative health efforts and to coordinate communication response during disasters.
- Serve as primary back-up for the PIO/Communications Specialist.
