The College of Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resource Management (CAFNRM) at UH Hilo opened its doors in the fall of 1975 with the main objective to prepare students for a broad and full understanding of basic factors involved in production, management, processing, distribution, marketing, sales, and services in the field of agricultural sciences. To achieve this goal, CAFNRM offers the Bachelor of Science degree (BS) in three areas of specialization: Animal Health and Management (which includes a pre-veterinary option), Aquaculture, and Tropical Agroecology. The Academic Support Specialist (Farm Technician) will be responsible for providing a full range of support to the CAFNRM faculty and staff for daily farm operations, including maintaining agricultural tools and equipment, implementing safety and sanitation protocols, monitoring and maintaining greenhouse, fields, and orchards. Duties and Responsibilities (- denotes essential function)
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual budget reports; prepare budget documents; review, analyze, evaluate and create short-and-long-range operating budget proposals, request and expenditure plans.
- Maintain and monitor internal accounting and fiscal records for general funds, special funds, external funds and Foundation funds
- Reconcile monthly program expenditures with university-generated reports; oversee and account for resources.
- Complete, review, maintain, reconcile and audit fiscal transaction reports, forms, requests, and records in accordance with Federal, State and University requirements. Keep Director apprised on fiscal matters including projections, spending trends, suggest options/alternatives in regards to budget policies, procedures, strategic fund transfers.
- Prepare personnel documents; monitor, prepare and submit payroll documents; arrange for travel authorizations and reimbursements; maintain and safeguard fiscal and personnel records and files.
- Prepare and issue purchase orders, requisitions, invitations to bid, generate bid specifications, technical specifications, or requests for quotations. Advise and assist faculty and staff on procurement policies, procedures and requirements including travel requests while ensuring compliance with state administrative and contractual requirements.
- Advise the Director of the progress of projects assigned, anticipated problems, and of major process or policy changes which may affect college operations.
- Provide a full range of administrative support services to areas within the College that operate under resource constraints or require fiscal problem resolution.
