This temporary, full-time role is ideal for individuals with strong organizational and communication skills who want to make a direct impact on the community by supporting the legislative process. The term runs from December 2026 to May 2027.
Key Responsibilities:
The Legislative Assistant will support the Housing committee, with core duties falling into three main areas:
Policy/Committee:
Conduct research, analyze legislation, track bills, coordinate public hearings, and handle constituent inquiries.
Administration:
Manage office operations (phones, email, files), draft correspondence and newsletters, respond to constituents, and assist with scheduling/data entry.
Communications:

LEGAL AUTHORIZATION TO WORK REQUIREMENT
The State of Hawai'i requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's Degree is preferred, but not required. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook). Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Outstanding organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines. Ability to work well independently and as part of a team. Experience with online meeting platforms (Zoom, Teams, etc.) is helpful. Customer service experience is desirable. Other Information This position is exempt from the civil service and considered temporary in nature. Therefore, if you are appointed to the position, your employment will be considered to be "at will," which means that you may be discharged from your employment at the prerogative of your department head or designee at any time.
Pay:
$2,800.00 - $5,000.00 per month
