JOB SUMMARY

The Director of Prevention is an on-site role that involves direct client and community engagement, with day, evening, late-night, and weekend hours, as well as occasional early-morning and holiday engagements. The primary responsibility of the Director of Prevention is to oversee the success of all programs within the department, including outreach, HIV/STI testing, harm reduction, substance use, PrEP/PEP services, and research. Within Project Vida's small-agency structure, the Director of Prevention works hands-on as the agency's senior community engagement coordinator and outreach specialist to meet operational demands. This includes staff supervision, team mentorship, and direct service to clients, as needed. The Director of Prevention is a senior staff member who works with both the Executive Director and the Director of Clinical Care Services to ensure the agency's productivity and sustainability. Salary for this role is $80,000 to $90,000, depending on experience.

JOB DUTIES

Agency Operations Develops cross-sector and inter-agency relationships with local schools, community organizations, medical facilities, faith-based organizations, government agencies, and community partners Assists in resource development to support agency programming, including grant writing and other fundraising, research, data collection and management, program evaluation, and reporting Partner with staff on agency-wide projects as needed Departmental Operations Oversees the development and implementation of departmental strategic plans with program staff Manages fiscal and programmatic operations of all department programs, including outreach, HIV/STI testing, prevention, treatment, and harm reduction education and services Recruits, hires, trains, and supervises department personnel Enforces professional culture centered on quality care, cultural competency, and client service Evaluates department programs based on goals/objectives, personnel performance reviews, and other relevant metrics and scopes Collaborate and facilitate services with other grantors, partners, and government agencies Submits substantive reports internally to the Executive Director and externally to funders per established procedural requirements and deadlines Supports event planning and support group facilitation, as needed Attends required internal and external meetings, training, events, and conferences Fosters and develops new programming and curriculum for departmental programs, services, and support groups Direct Service Supports and supervises departmental staff with outreach (street, club, online, etc.) with the population of focus, including people of color, under-resourced individuals, LGBTQ+ individuals, and those living with or at risk for HIV/STI and/or substance use Provides direct services to clients for HIV/STI testing, risk/harm reduction counseling, substance use treatment, and sex education, as needed Provides and follows up on internal and external referrals, as needed Supports and supervises departmental staff with the facilitation of support group sessions and drop-ins, providing risk counseling, health education, and information about healthy relationships Other duties as assigned Community Engagement & Advocacy Builds, nurtures, and sustains strategic relationships with key community stakeholders, including healthcare providers, local community-based organizations, law enforcement, and government agencies, including developing, nurturing, and establishing MOUs and BAAs Acts as a leading advocate for research, harm reduction services, and HIV testing, prevention, and treatment policies and practices within the community and relevant planning bodies at the local and state levels Oversees and participates in strategic outreach activities to raise awareness about prevention programs and activities among populations of focus and other stakeholders Data, Evaluation, & Reporting Develops and oversees systems for robust data collection and analysis to rigorously assess program effectiveness, identify trends, and inform continuous program improvement Prepares and submits comprehensive reports and compelling presentations to communicate findings to the Executive Director, Board of Directors, funders (including grant reports), and other internal and external stakeholders Analyze program data to help develop, create, and modify departmental strategies and inform organization-wide strategic planning Ensures the completeness, accuracy, and timely submission of all required program documentation, budgets, expenditure receipts, and outcome measures

QUALIFICATIONS

Master's or doctoral degree in Public Health, Social Work, Nursing, Business Administration, Non-Profit Management, or other related fields Minimum 7 to 10 years of relevant professional experience, with 5+ years of experience in HIV care, testing, outreach, counseling, and education, and 3+ years of experience in harm reduction care, counseling, and education required Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience Certifications/licensure, including IDPH-certified HIV tester and counselor or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire (required), CDC-approved High-Impact Interventions (PCC, CHTC, ARTAS, etc.) preferred or willingness to obtain within 12 months of hire, and willingness to obtain phlebotomy certification Fluency in written and spoken English required, ability to speak and write in Spanish strongly preferred Cultural sensitivity to Black, Latino, and LGBTQ+ populations is required Word processing/computer skills are required Organizational and time management skills are required Presentation skills and group facilitation skills are required Reliable transportation is required Related lived experience is highly valued and considered a significant asset for this position, recognizing the unique insights and trust built through shared experience About Project VIDA Inc.
