NON-EXEMPT JOB DESCRIPTION
: Under the direct supervision of the Public Works Superintendent/ Public Works Director and the Mayor, the B-Man Operator performs skilled public works duties requiring a higher level of responsibility, skill proficiency, and reliability compared to casual labor assignments. Successful candidates must demonstrate strong work ethics, teamwork, and the ability to perform duties safely and efficiently.ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Demonstrate the ability to follow directions and complete assigned tasks independently and collaboratively within a team environment
- Ability to understand and adhere to established protocols and procedures
- Knowledge of operating hand and gas- powered tools
- Working knowledge of water system operations, including water service turn-ons/ turn-offs, water mains, and related maintenance tasks
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Ability to safely operate required tools, equipment, and machinery Demonstrated ability to deliver professional, courteous, and responsive customer service Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively convey information to managers and the general public Knowledge of sewer and stormwater infrastructure (including storm basins) and their locations throughout the City Knowledge of materials used in the Public Works environment and their designs- Knowledge of materials used in the Public Works environment and their designs
- Knowledge of street signs and streetlights and their locations
- Knowledge of utility locate markings and standard color codes
- Ability to identify Public Works equipment and its use
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
- Stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, climb, and perform repetitive physical tasks for extended periods
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions and on uneven terrain
- Operate tools, equipment, and vehicles safely while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Work overtime, weekends, holidays, and respond to emergency call-outs as needed
