The Occupancy Specialist ensures compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including HUD requirements, as well as MHA policies and procedures. Individual must exercise considerable independent judgment and initiative in performing duties and must exercise professionalism and courtesy in frequent contact with residents, employees, and the general public. Join our team in supporting housing programs and ensuring effective management of tenant occupancy. In this role, you will serve as a vital link between residents, landlords, and community agencies, facilitating access to housing opportunities and maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Your energetic approach will help foster positive relationships within diverse communities, support high-risk populations, and promote stable housing solutions. This position offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact by assisting individuals experiencing homelessness, supporting underserved communities, and ensuring the smooth operation of housing assistance programs. Responsibilities Manage tenant eligibility verification processes for programs such as LIHTC (Low-Income Housing Tax Credit), Section 8, and other HUD (Housing and Urban Development) housing assistance initiatives. Conduct thorough client interviews using motivational interviewing techniques to assess needs, eligibility, and readiness for housing placement. Collaborate with landlords, property managers, and community partners to negotiate lease agreements that comply with Fair Housing regulations and Landlord-Tenant laws. Maintain accurate case management records using property management tools; document client interactions, progress notes, and compliance documentation diligently. Qualifications Proven experience in case management or property management within underserved populations. Strong knowledge of landlord-tenant law, Fair Housing regulations, HUD policies, and housing assistance programs such as Section 8. Proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with property management tools such as PHA web, is preferred. Experience working with culturally diverse communities and understanding the unique challenges faced by underserved populations.
