Job Description

The Town of Southwick is seeking a qualified professional for the position of Assistant Public Works Director. This position works directly with the Public Works Director in the administration, planning, and oversight of DPW operations, including engineering, highway, water, sewer, solid waste, stormwater management, and infrastructure projects. Responsibilities include coordinating engineering and public works projects; managing MS4/stormwater compliance, inspections, and reporting; overseeing consultants and contractors; preparing bid specifications, reports, and grant applications; assisting with departmental budgeting and long-range planning; and coordinating with Town departments, boards, residents, utilities, and state and federal agencies. The Assistant Director will assume supervisory responsibility for the department during an extended absence of the Director.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related discipline, or eight years of equivalent experience; five years of managerial/supervisory experience; strong organizational, communication, computer, and problem-solving skills; knowledge of public works operations, construction and surveying practices, applicable regulations, CAD platforms, and ArcGIS; and a valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications:
Five years of municipal public works and engineering experience; NPDES Certified Stormwater Inspector certification; and D1 and T1 Drinking Water Operator licenses. The position includes both office and field work and requires the ability to respond to emergency situations as necessary.
