Job Description
City Manager City of Nevada, MO The City of Nevada, Missouri is seeking an experienced, collaborative, and forward-thinking professional to serve as their next City Manager. This is a great opportunity to make a meaningful impact as Nevada offers a rare combination of a strong organizational foundation, an engaged governing body, significant infrastructure investment, and a community that embraces both its rich history and future growth. Located along Interstate 49 in southwest Missouri, Nevada serves as the county seat of Vernon County and a regional hub for commerce, healthcare, education, and industry. Home to approximately 8,200 residents, and serving a larger regional population, Nevada offers affordable living, excellent schools, a Regional Medical Center, a growing business community, and abundant recreational opportunities. In 1979, the City adopted a home-rule charter form of government with a Council/Mayor and fived elected officials serving the community at large. The City Manager works closely with the elected body and serves as a key representative of the City within the community and region playing an important role in fostering partnerships that support economic development, organizational excellence, and long-term community success. This highly visible leadership position is responsible for providing executive leadership and direction for all city operations while advancing the priorities of the City Council and community. The City Manager serves as the City's chief administrative officer and leads a full-service organization of 92 employees and oversees a $40 million FY26 budget, including a $28 million investment in water and wastewater infrastructure improvements. The City provides a range of services including police and fire protection, parks and recreation, an aquatics center, municipal airport, golf course, animal shelter, and utility operations. Nevada is seeking a leader who brings strong municipal experience, financial and operational expertise, political acumen, and a genuine commitment to community engagement. The ideal candidate will be visible, approachable, and dedicated to fostering a culture of accountability, transparency, innovation, and continuous improvement.
