Job Description

Description Summary An entry level position within the Water Department performing a wide variety of semi-skilled assignments in maintenance and construction work on the operations and activities of the water distribution system and appurtenances. Expectation of Job Duties The following examples are meant to be illustrative only and are not intended to be all-inclusive: Participate in monitoring and calibrating a variety of water instruments. Perform a variety of indoor and outdoor construction, maintenance, repair, testing and reporting assignments common to water operations and activities. Participate in providing statistical information on water division activities. Perform a variety of semi-skilled work in the maintenance of water operations. Participate in preparation of reports as requested. May operate all light equipment such as pick-up trucks and similar equipment. Assist in performing routine maintenance and service on motor vehicles and equipment. Participate in installation and maintenance of water mains, fire hydrants and related appurtenances. Follow daily and weekly work schedules and complete projects in a timely and accurate manner. Follow departmental rules, policies and procedures, and assists fellow employees in same. Follow rules and policies to be in compliance with safe working practices. Perform other related duties as assigned. Job Requirements Graduation from high school or equivalent Possess a valid Missouri Drivers License Or Any combination of education, training, or experience which would qualify for the position as determined by the City Administrator and Public Works Director. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions with limited supervision. Ability to carry out general mechanical tasks. Ability to maintain detailed, accurate records and reports. Ability to deal effectively with the general public and city officials. Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and written with employees, public officials, and other as required. Thorough knowledge of rules and regulations of city personnel policy and procedures. Working knowledge of construction equipment, materials, and methods employed in water works systems construction and maintenance. Thorough knowledge of hazards and safety precautions common in public works.
