Job Description

The Public Affairs Clerk serves as a key member of the Town's administrative team and performs technical and administrative work by connecting the public to the events and governmental affairs of the Town of Bermuda Run. The Public Affairs Clerk also serves as the official clerk to the Mayor and Town Council. The position safeguards the integrity of the Town's legislative record, supports transparent and orderly public meetings, administers records and public-information processes, and provides responsive service to elected officials, staff, residents, and community partners. The successful candidate will bring sound judgment, exceptional organization and communication skills, discretion, accuracy, and a strong commitment to public service. Acumen with public relations is a key aspect of this work. Among other duties are the day-to-day administrative support to the Town Manager and staff as well as support for the Mayor and Town Council. The candidate should have a working knowledge of North Carolina municipal government, open meetings, public records retention requirements and parliamentary or board procedures. In addition, this position should have experience producing accurate minutes and official documents from complex discussions. Candidate should have the ability to attend evening meetings and occasional special events outside of regular business hours. The ideal candidate should have a Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Communications, Records Management, Political Science or a related field. Three or more years of progressively responsible administrative, records, governance, or local government experience is preferred. North Carolina Certified Municipal Clerk (NCCMC) and/or Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC) designation is preferred or the ability to obtain these designations within a reasonable timeframe. Additionally, a Notary Public commission is preferred or the ability to obtain the commission. Possession of a valid NC driver license. The salary for this position is negotiable based upon the candidate's qualifications and experience and is supplemented by an excellent benefit package. SALARY Anticipated hiring salary is between $50,000 to $65,000 DOQ. Please submit a letter of interest, resume, and a completed employment application.
