Job Description

Purpose of Position Reporting to the Director of Housing & Residence Life, the Assistant Director of Housing Operations will provide leadership to departmental administrative operations and service delivery. Housing & Residence Life oversees more than 25 residential facilities which accommodate approximately 3,000 residential students. As a member of the senior leadership team, the Assistant Director of Housing Operations will work with directing the room and apartment assignment processes, move-in/move-out processes, policy/procedure development, housing software initiatives, training/implementation of customer service standards, service center operations, mail/package services, housing key management, document retention, assessment, etc. This position will work collaboratively with the Housing staff and contribute to the achievement of departmental goals and priorities. Duties & Responsibilities Occupancy Management Lead housing assignments, occupancy, applications, renewals, contracts, leases, and related resident processes. Oversee housing management systems, data accuracy, reporting, and user access. Coordinate housing contracts and leases with legal counsel and housing leadership. Oversee the resident assignment experience, including outreach, communication, check-in/check-out, and post-occupancy follow-up. Administration & Operations Lead housing operational processes, policies, systems, and service delivery. Ensure compliance with applicable university, state, and federal regulations. Oversee key inventory, electronic access, records, and housing technology systems. Direct service operations, including service centers, desk operations, and mail services. Coordinate housing opening, closing, break housing, transition housing, and summer operations. Evaluate and improve policies, procedures, technology, and operational practices. Staffing & Supervision Supervise recruitment, hiring, training, development, and performance management for housing operations staff. Develop and maintain training programs for housing policies, systems, safety, compliance, and operational procedures. Ensure staff have appropriate access, resources, and training to effectively use departmental systems. Public Relations & Customer Service Provide exceptional service and resolve housing-related questions and concerns for students, families, staff, and other constituents. Communicate housing policies, procedures, deadlines, and information to residents and campus partners. Serve as a liaison with campus departments and represent Housing on committees and professional organizations. Foster collaborative relationships with internal and external partners. Budget & Financial Management Develop annual budget recommendations for housing operations. Monitor operational expenditures and promote responsible use of departmental resources. Planning & Leadership Participate in departmental assessment, strategic planning, and continuous improvement initiatives. Serve on the Housing Leadership Team and contribute to short- and long-term goals. Assist with annual reporting and other departmental initiatives. Participate in an on-call rotation and perform other duties that support departmental and university objectives. Required Competencies Demonstrated experience in process analysis, problem solving, and continuous improvement. Knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements, including FERPA, Clery Act, and Title IX. Strong time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Knowledge of student development and best practices in residential education. Ability to collaborate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and perspectives. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends and respond to emergencies as needed. Minimum Requirements Bachelor's degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Counseling, or a related field. Three years of experience in residential life, student affairs, housing administration, or a related field. Two years of progressively responsible experience in university residential life and housing administration or a related field. Two years of supervisory experience. Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check.
