Based in the legislator's Albany office, this position will oversee communications operations, manage media relations, and communicate the legislator's work, priorities, and accomplishments to constituents and the public. Responsibilities include; Developing and implementing the office's overall communications strategy. Drafting press releases, statements, speeches, talking points, monthly newsletters, government mailers, brochures, opinion pieces, and other public materials. Serving as a primary point of contact for reporters and media organizations. Managing the office's email, social media accounts, website content, and digital communications. Building and maintaining professional relationships with members of the Albany, Queens, and statewide press. Photographing or documenting official events when necessary. Performing additional duties necessary to support the Jegisfator and office, as assigned.
Qualifications:
Exceptional writing, editing, verbal communication, and organizational skills. Excellent judgment, professionalism, discretion, and attention to detail. Ability to produce accurate, polished materials under tight deadlines. Demonstrated understanding of media relations, public affairs, digital communications, or political communications. Familiarity with New York State government, the legislative process, and Queens communities is preferred. Proficiency with major social media platforms and common digital communications tools. A bachelor's degree in communications, Journalism, political science, public relations, or a related field is preferred. Availability outside regular business hours during legislative session or in response to significant developments may be required.
