Director of Economic & Community Development Southern Tier Economic Growth (STEG) is seeking a Director of Economic & Community Development to join our small, collaborative economic development team serving Chemung County, New York. This position supports the economic growth and financial stability of the community through a variety of programs and initiatives. The role requires a dynamic professional capable of managing diverse projects, including business assistance, community outreach, grant procurement and administration, and oversight of economic development programs. Organization Description Southern Tier Economic Growth is a private 501(c)(6) not-for-profit organization. Our mission is to retain, expand, and attract industry and high-quality jobs to Chemung County, New York. The organization is governed by a Board of Directors, the majority of whom are private business executives representing many of the county's leading employers. The organization supports the Chemung County Industrial Development Agency, a public benefit corporation serving Chemung County that is led by its own board of directors. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assist in the development and implementation of economic development programs and strategies to attract and retain businesses. Research, write, and manage grants from state, federal, and other public funding sources. Provide grant writing and technical assistance to municipalities and businesses that lack in-house capacity. Manage the organization's ZoomProspector/GIS site selection tool. Assist with creative direction and regularly develop and post social media content. Ensure the organization's websites are current and compliant with required postings, including minutes, meeting notices, project updates, and available sites through ZoomProspector and related microsites. Gather and analyze data related to available sites, labor force characteristics, utilities, and other community assets to assist prospective businesses. Coordinate with media outlets to ensure the organization's initiatives and accomplishments are effectively represented. Organize and manage regional initiatives on behalf of the organization. Facilitate the organization's marketing, communications, and digital presence including social media content development and scheduling. Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 5 + years of economic development experience Experience across public, private, and nonprofit sectors Working knowledge of New York state and federal economic development programs and grant sources, including New York State's Consolidated Funding Application (CFA) process. Strong analytical, research, and report-writing skills, with the ability to present information clearly and concisely. Experience in project management, including budget oversight and timeline management. Familiarity with website content management systems and social media platforms. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders, including business leaders, community officials, and government representatives. Advanced degree or relevant professional certifications.
