Job Description
Student Intern, Police Office of Public Affairs Unpaid Internship Location:
In Person, 1300 Ontario St. 9 th Floor, Cleveland, Ohio 44113Work Schedule:
Between 15-20 hrs. per week depending on cases, assignments, etc. Flexible scheduling between 7 am-3 pm, Monday - Friday. Office of Public Affairs This position will provide an opportunity for the student to gain meaningful, real-world experience in the advancement of public safety communications within a municipal public sector CDP/Public Safety department. The CDP Student Intern will assist in projects that may include but are not limited to, Documenting Photographing, media relations, social media management and content creation that support the business operations. Photography Duties Photograph division events, ceremonies, and community events. Capture candid, "day-to-day' moments of officers for storytelling content. Edit and format photos for social media and media release use Maintain and organize a digital photo archive Video Duties Film short-form videos, reels, highlighting units, events, and recruitment efforts. Assist in producing "behind-the-scenes" content Edit clips for social media and internal use Capture B roll footage for media requests Assist with set and recording of press conference or live events Social Media & Content Creation Draft captions for Facebook, Instagram, and X posts Convert Press Release into clear and engaging social media content Assist in planning and scheduling posts using content calendar Monitor engagement and trends Help create consistent content series (i.e. Officer Spotlight , Traffic Tuesday, safety messaging ) Candidate must be a high school student entering their senior year or currently in an accredited college or university, with an interest in Criminal justice, Communications, Public Relations or a related field. Strong fluency in Microsoft Office products, such as Power Point, Word, etc. Ability to work independently, exercising responsible judgment and initiative Ability to work in a team environment Must have excellent verbal communication skills and exceptional interpersonal skills Candidate must be available to work within the prescribed hours or if flexible hours or offered, during the season in which he or she is interning.Preferred Qualifications:
Interest or experience in photography, videography, or visual storytelling. Has a basic knowledge of photo and video editing software. (i.e. Adobe Premiere Pro, Canva, CapCut, or similar platforms) Familiar with social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, and X ) with an understanding of content trends and audience engagement. Ability to create a clear, concise, engaging written content for public communication. Interest in public safety, media relations, or community engagement. Willingness to learn and take initiative on creative projects.
