Job Description

Job Title:
Medical Consultant Location:
Oklahoma City, OK 73102.
Duration:
6 Months to 1
Year Shift:
General Day shift (20 hours per week) On Call availability Needed.
Job Responsibilities:
Manage and medically oversee active and latent TB cases across 75 Oklahoma counties, including diagnosis, treatment, follow-up, and completion of therapy. Interpret chest X-rays, laboratory results, treatment records, and clinical data and recommend appropriate diagnostic tests and treatment. Prescribe and monitor TB medications, manage adverse reactions, and provide preventive therapy to eligible contacts. Provide medical consultation and recommendations to physicians, healthcare providers, CHD nurses, and laboratory personnel regarding TB diagnosis, treatment, transmission, and prevention. Review and respond to TB case reports, coordinate with local health departments, and arrange referrals and additional patient information/testing. Conduct and support contact investigations, epidemiological investigations, research, and TB control activities. Manage non-compliant TB patients, including treatment adherence, legal interventions, legal orders, and court testimony when required. Develop and update TB policies, procedures, recommendations, and epidemiological programs for Oklahoma. Provide education and training to physicians, nurses, healthcare professionals, and other audiences on TB and communicable diseases. Prepare technical reports, scientific manuscripts, presentations, and data analyses for OSDH, CDC, healthcare professionals, and the public. Participate in local, regional, and national TB/public-health meetings and stay current with TB and infectious-disease literature. Communicate with the media and public, including written materials, telephone/radio interviews, on-camera interviews, and public meetings. Support general communicable-disease activities, bioterrorism preparedness, and public-health emergency activities. Follow state/federal public-health laws, regulations, policies, confidentiality requirements, and ethical standards, while working effectively with the public.
Required:
The candidate for the position should have a doctoral degree in medicine, hold an unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Oklahoma (MD or DO), and should have at least 5 years' experience in clinical practice and disease management. A minimum of 5 years' experience in the diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis is preferred.
