Advocacy Support Coordinator Position Status:
Currently funded at 1.0 FTE, Non-Exempt Reports to: Programs Director in collaboration with the Executive Director Organization Overview Founded in 1979, Shelter From the Storm provides services to those who have been impacted by intimate partner violence in Union County, Oregon, and works to break the cycle of intimate partner abuse and violence through advocacy, education, and awareness. Summary The Transitional Housing Advocate is responsible for transitional housing assistance that includes client intake, assessment, goal planning, and case management for survivors seeking to transition from emergency shelter to independent living in transitional housing with the goal of stabilizing in permanent housing. The Transitional Housing Advocate will provide direct service work with the survivors to ensure their housing and related needs are met and work towards the survivor's success and the program's overall success. The Transitional Housing Advocate is crucial in guiding survivors through the process of moving from emergency shelter to stable, permanent housing. This role requires a strong understanding of local housing resources, case management skills, and the ability to collaborate with community partners to ensure the success of each survivor's journey Essential Duties and Responsibilities Monitor grant activities to include, but are not limited to: Client intake Assessments Goal Planning Case management Track progress of each client Maintain non-identifying statistics on a monthly, semi-annual, and annual basis Transportation Develop agreements with landlords to lease housing; oversee furnishing, cleaning, and maintenance of housing to prepare for occupancy; settle participants into transitional housing. Work with Executive Director to ensure timely payments and quarterly review of budget. Work closely with the Programs Director. Work with the Safehouse Manager to prioritize emergency shelter residents' ability to transition into the Transitional Housing program. Provide support, mentorship, and proper referrals with community partners. Regular contact with clients in the program, which may include home visits. Ensures compliance and upholds SFS policies and procedures. Facilitate a safe, supportive, and trauma-informed environment for survivors and their children of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault and stalking. Maintain confidentiality of survivors and their children as well as SFS staff. Provide direct service advocacy. Maintain open communication with staff and the Programs Director. Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director. Qualifications To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform essential duties and responsibilities as listed above. In addition, the following candidate must be able to carry out the following: attention to detail, strong organization skills, utilize effective time management. Must possess the ability to work as an individual and as part of a team, handle multiple priorities, remain calm in stressful situations, and maintain confidentiality. The Sexual Assault Response Advocate must be able to work effectively in a nonprofit environment with frequent interruptions. Evening and weekend work may be required. Must be willing and able to travel. Skills Knowledge of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking. Ability to work independently, self-motivated, takes initiative and is self-directed to promote operation and organizational needs. Strong organizational and computer skills. Ability to effectively advocate for clients. Knowledge of duties and responsibilities. Cultural responsiveness; recognition of and respect for diversity. Creative and innovative thinking. Honesty, integrity. Other Requirements Experience working with survivors preferred. Valid driver's license, insurance, and access to regular transportation required. Criminal background check required. Must comply with all SFS policies and safety regulations. State of Oregon training requirements may be completed concurrent with work.
