JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the School Principal and supported by the Director of Student Support Services-School Counselors the Counselor is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive counseling program to assist students in their personal, social, emotional, and academic development. The Counselor supports students in making and implementing educational and occupational goals and plans that will impact their lives. This position educates, assesses, and provides intervention, referral, and support to students and/or their families regarding identified needs. Additionally, the Counselor collaborates with parents, teachers, community organizations and other stakeholders to ensure students' success.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1.
Develop and implements comprehensive counseling services and programs for students and families by utilizing data to ensure that students are learning academically, developing strong character and gaining skills that prepare them for college and career. 2. Communicate the goals of the comprehensive counseling program to students, teachers, parents, and community stakeholders. 3. Provide direct services to students and families through the implementation of curriculum, individuals student planning, and preventive and responsive services. 4. Address students' educational challenges by providing individual or group support in the areas of but not limited to academics, career, emotional and/or social. 5. Utilize comprehensive culturally relevant curriculum and methods of motivating and developing the areas of growth of all Pittsburgh Public School students. 6.Provide counseling that will lead each student to increased personal growth, self-understanding, and maturity. 7. Provide student information to post-secondary institutions and/or potential employers according to the provisions of the Board's policy on student records and as requested by students and/or their parents. 8. Evaluate, collect, and update students' historical records (permanent record cards, cumulative folders, etc.) 9. Provide support to and confer with student families regarding the achievement of their student. 10.Serve as a liaison and collaborate with community partners and families. 11.Consult with the Student Support Services team, faculty, and community agency representatives to cultivate a mutual understanding and teamwork, when appropriate. 12. 13. Assist with the homebound process to ensure a smooth, continuous flow of education, when necessary. 14.Process records for students involved in school transfers, including those returning from correctional facilities, juvenile detention centers, hospitalizations, and related agencies. 15. Aid students in course and subject selection. 16. Work with students individually or in-groups to assist them in evaluating their aptitudes and abilities through the organization, administration, and interpretation of appropriate tests and other evaluation measures. 17. Meet with students individually or in-groups to develop education and occupation plans to identify career objectives. 18. Maintain and disseminates information regarding post-secondary institutions and career opportunities. 19.Provide guidance and information for students seeking post-secondary education information. 20.Coordinate school-sponsored career programs, in-services, and student visits to prospective post-secondary institutions. 21.Facilitate the preparation and processing of post-secondary, scholarship, and employment applications. 22.Provide written and oral recommendations to post-secondary institutions for admission and scholarship. 23.Maintain a current file of catalogs, school profiles, and scholarship aid information related to post-secondary training and education. 24.Plan guidance field trips to post-secondary institutions for interested students. 25.Provide assistance to a multidisciplinary and flexible Student Services Team to generate options that reflect and respond to the needs and priorities of the students. 26. Counsel students individually and in groups, monitor daily attendance, serve as the Foster Care point of contact, identify homelessness, complete the required paperwork, and follow up with families, be apart of the Student Assistant Program (SAP) and be a part of the Crisis Team, coordinate other services as needed. 27. Other relevant duties as assigned by supervisor in support of the department's goals and objectives and the District's mission and Superintendent's Priority Goals.
EDUCATION REQUIRED
Master's degree in School Guidance and Counseling
CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE REQUIRED

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE A
minimum of five years of related experience
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
  • Experiences in analyzing data and assessing students? needs to inform work and develop and implement procedures and programs to support student achievement.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the principles, methods, and procedures for the following: diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions, career counseling/guidance, curriculum and training design, individual/group teaching and instruction, evaluation of trainings.
  • Knowledge of Section 504 including IEP Processes, assessments, emotional needs of students, applicable federal/state laws and regulations, mandates related to mental health services and Special Education programs.
  • Experience working collaboratively with stakeholders, families, students, and school personnel to coordinate resources for students and families.
  • Experience in strategic planning and implementation of counseling services and programs.
  • -Ability to foster and promote innovation.
  • A commitment to accelerating student achievement, eliminate racial disparities, and create a positive school/district culture.
  • The ability to be a culturally-responsive educator who knows how to leverage students' unique skills, interests, and learning styles to create a learning experience that unequivocally includes and empowers each and every student.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a team player, under pressure with multiple competing deadlines, and with culturally, educationally, and racially diverse internal and external customers.
  • Ability to exercise a high degree of confidentiality, professionalism, poise, tact and diplomacy to accomplish objectives.
