Assistant Director, Taxpayer Services (EMS Band 4)  Salary $98,712.00 - $170,076.00 Annually Location Thurston County - Tumwater, WA Job Type Exempt Remote Employment Flexible/Hybrid Job Number 2026-075 Department Dept. of Revenue Division Taxpayer Services Opening Date 04/22/2026 Closing Date 5/10/2026 11:59 PM Pacific Description Department of Revenue (DOR) is looking for a dynamic leader - someone with a strong background in taxation and licensing, strategic leadership, program management, budgeting, policy development and human resources management; to fill the role of Assistant Director of our Taxpayer Services division. This vital leadership position leads the division responsible for taxpayer information, education and business licensing. This includes administration of the state's Business Licensing Service; serving as a resource for state, city, and county licensing partners who regulate the businesses, tax and licensing contact center, industry specific education and taxpayer workshops, legislative implementation support, member of the enterprise-wide Small Business Liaison Team, as well as the legislatively mandated Taxpayer Rights Advocate program. As the Assistant Director of the Taxpayer Services division, you will: Direct, control and coordinate business licensing and taxpayer service functions of the agency. Provide vision and leadership necessary to plan, manage, and direct the activities of the Taxpayer Services division. Oversee 117 professional and support staff that carry out the statutory responsibilities of business licensing and taxpayer assistance in the forms of information, education, and instruction in person, by telephone and by webinar. Work with other Unified Business Identifier (UBI) agencies on business process changes and improvements and serve on the UBI Board. Administer the agency's Education and Outreach program. Oversee the agency's primary centralized contact center. Manage the Taxpayer Services division's annual operating budget. Oversee the Department's Industry Specific Education and other outreach programs. Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and extensive experience managing people and large-scale projects and/or programs.
