Job Description

Position Overview:
Develop and execute organizational messaging, branding, publications, marketing and advertising. Supervise staff within/managing the communications department. Handling media duties for statewide and regional events and member communications support.
Communications/Public Relations Duties:
o Research, design and implement communication deliverables to communicate the mission and activities of Montana Farmers Union. This includes a quarterly magazine, monthly membership update, support the development of press releases, executive the placement and designing of advertising, and oversee electronic and digital media outlets of MFU. o Taking photos, videos at events and utilizing for MFU member publications, event updates, and more. o Using and developing original MFU content (Written content and graphic design content) o Social media management, YouTube, and other communications platforms to share and post/publish content o Website content management to ensure that all areas on the website are up-to-date o Support Government relations staff with policy and issues messaging for MFU Legislative Priorities. Research and educate on federal and state legislative public policy issues. This includes keeping members informed about legislative activities and disseminate information using the above means to communicate to membership. o Managing and coordinating, in partnership with Press Coordinator, all media relations including media interviews, letters to the editor (with input from president and relevant staff), press releases and one-pagers. o Manage social media policy. Act as main administrator for social media accounts and support social media & creative content manager.
Marketing Duties:
o Manage media advertising (Radio, TV, Newspaper, Website) o Design graphics, advertising, and other marketing needs o Devise and update annually a marketing plan using the above communication tools o Work with staff as necessary to market special projects and events. This includes coordinating the design of event logos, event programs, event postcards, display ads
Event Management:
o -
MFU State Convention:
Support statewide events coordinator with the MFU State Convention, executing any design, print, web, and media/press needs. o -
National Farmers Union Convention:
Works with staff and delegates to understand delegate responsibilities, attends communications training if available, arranges media, writes article on event for grassroots. o Other events as assigned Membership engagement: Works with Ambassador team to promote membership engagement opportunities. This includes coordinating marketing and website needs for membership engagement efforts All other duties and tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • B.A. degree or equivalent experience in journalism/communications field. The communications director must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Work well on a team and supervise support staff as assigned
  • Knowledge of Wordpress (website backend management), Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, LightRoom) experience preferred.
  • In addition the communications director must have the ability to plan, coordinate and implement the marketing and public relations of MFU projects.
  • Utilize work time for related business.
  • Agriculture/food/farm/ranch background and cooperative business knowledge is a bonus and preferred.
Evaluation:
Yearly in December or as needed Remote work could be a possibility dependent on candidate/applicant. Travel and weekend work is occasionally a part of the job to cover events and support communications needs in-person as required.
