Execitive Director Southern Colorado Economic Development District (SCEDD) Pueblo, CO Job Details Full-time $60,000 - $70,000 a year 1 hour ago Benefits Travel reimbursement Qualifications Teamwork Bachelor's degree Business Administration Business Senior leadership Full Job Description Executive Director - Southern Colorado Economic Development District (SCEDD) About SCEDD The Southern Colorado Economic Development District (SCEDD) serves a thirteen-county region — Lake, Chaffee, Fremont, Custer, Pueblo, Huerfano, Las Animas, Crowley, Otero, Kiowa, Bent, Prowers, and Baca — spanning the heart of the Rocky Mountains to the Southeastern Plains. SCEDD holds a formal partnership with the federal Economic Development Administration (EDA), U.S. Department of Commerce. The District coordinates grant applications, provides professional and technical assistance, and supports regional economic strategy across its member counties. Member counties contribute annual per-capita dues. The Opportunity SCEDD is seeking a dynamic, entrepreneurial Executive Director to lead the organization into its next chapter. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who thrives in lean, high-impact environments — you'll serve as the sole staff member, supported by an engaged Executive Committee and Board of Directors, with room to grow the team as the organization scales. The Executive Director will be responsible for strengthening SCEDD's financial sustainability, deepening stakeholder relationships across the region, and building on meaningful recent progress. Key priorities include developing a funding model less reliant on grant cycles and more anchored in program revenue, consolidating SCEDD's regional reputation, and systematizing and growing its diverse programs.
Core areas of focus include:
  • SBA Community Navigator program for small business assistance
  • Grant writing and administration
  • Infrastructure, recreational, and general planning services
  • Renewable energy opportunities
  • Regional project coordination Key Responsibilities
  • Partner with the Board of Directors to execute and implement SCEDD's strategic plan
  • Administer grants and fulfill complex technical reporting requirements for the EDA
  • Oversee the collaborative process of updating the regional Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS)every five years
  • Provide consultative and technical assistance in planning and implementing economic development programs across member counties
  • Manage budgets, multiple funding streams, and varied bank accounts with precision and transparency
  • Maintain corporate records and deliver timely reporting on organizational activities
  • Oversee SCEDD's marketing and social media presence
  • Cultivate and sustain relationships with key stakeholders throughout the District Supervise interns and support staff as operations grow Who We're Looking For The ideal candidate is an outward-facing, collaborative leader with strong personal credibility and a commitment for results.
You're comfortable operating independently, confident in front of a large and diverse Board, and energized by the challenge of building organizational capacity in a resource-tight environment.
You bring:
  • A track record managing federal and state grant programs
  • Strong financial acumen — budgeting, reporting, and managing complex funding streams
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strategic thinking paired with hands-on execution
  • Proficiency in Excel and grant management systems
  • Familiarity with the economic, social, and political landscape of southern Colorado (preferred)
  • Prior experience working with the EDA and regional strategy coordination (preferred) Minimum qualifications: Bachelor's degree in business, public administration, organizational management, or a related field, plus at least five years of relevant professional experience in government, business, or education — or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Compensation & Logistics Salary:
$60,000-$70,000 depending on qualifications, plus a benefits allowance Considerable regional travel required Periodic evening and occasional weekend meetings are part of the role How to Apply
