None Summary of Job:
HPP's housing programs identify vulnerable families who are homeless or in danger of losing their housing. The Housing Team works to help these clients to secure or maintain housing through the use of one-time rental assistance programs and financial assistance in house or externally collaborating with community partners and city agencies. In addition to the financial assistance, we also provide Housing Workshops to facilitate housing search and applications. The Housing Associate plays a pivotal role in assessing the needs of clients referred to the Housing Program in a timely manner, connecting them to appropriate services within and outside of HPP. The Housing Associate position requires a motivated self-starter with a client-centered focus with the ability to creatively find resources to best meet their clients' needs. The ideal candidate will have excellent time management and attention to detail, while utilizing critical thinking skills to support clients moving through the application requirement process and gather the necessary documentation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Housing Assistance Program Client Duties:
Lead families through the process of obtaining one-time rental assistance: Assess families' needs (housing and other needs) and connect them to appropriate services within and outside of HPP. Determine families' eligibility for housing assistance programs. Assist families in gathering required documentation. Prepare rental assistance applications. Consult with the Housing Program Manager as needed throughout the process. Present applications to the Housing Program Manager for approval. Counsel families on their rights and responsibilities as tenants. Make follow-up calls to ensure families remain stably housed. Assist families with other housing-related needs, including: o Preparing for and conducting a housing search. o Completing applications for housing units and housing subsidy programs. o Advocating with housing authorities or other housing providers on the families' behalf. Conduct housing search and barrier removal with clients during drop-in three hour housing strategy sessions. Conduct weekly housing workshops as assigned. Stay current on housing issues pertaining to HPP families as well as the broader community.
Administration:
- Enter all clients in the new Homeless Prevention Portal to determine eligibility for housing assistance funds. ONE System user (citywide housing database). Perform required searches, enrollments, and exits in ONE System. Train other users in the service as needed.
- Support new facilitators on housing workshop content. Review solo presentations and confirm ability to lead workshops independently.
- Support partnerships, including: o Season of Sharing Fund o San Francisco Housing Authority o San Francisco Financial coaching program o Eviction Defense Collaborative referrals o Furniture assistance o Online housing listings
- Perform other duties or special projects as directed by the Program Manager - Housing Services.
Other duties:
Input all required data into the HPP Salesforce database (Henri) and any other required City databases, on a timely basis. Keep accurate, up-to-date, confidential documentation of client contact and activity. Client notes input into Henri within 24 hours of client contact. Schedule and attend weekly individual supervision meetings. Be flexible and adapt to changing situations.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or AA in social work or related field (2 years of related work experience accepted in place of degree). Bilingual Spanish/English welcomed but not required. Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills; detail-oriented. Prior housing experience strongly preferred. Project management and assessment skills; ability to problem solve, assess program workflow, make recommendations and manage projects to completion. Demonstrated knowledge of computer systems and the ability to quickly learn new databases/programs. Passion for serving low-income families. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and culturally diverse environment. Ability to work with families that present multiple issues. Ability to maintain appropriate professional and personal boundaries with high integrity.. Able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Demonstrated understanding of the intersection of racism and poverty and a commitment to social justice, anti-racism, and HPP's mission and organizational values. Physical Requirements:
This position requires the ability to work under stress and handle multiple project deadlines. This position requires an annual tuberculosis test and may require moderate lifting.
