A Fiscal Director or Budget Director manages the budget and finance department of government agencies or cities. They manage the operations of the budget and finance department; including leading analysts and staff. They review and make recommendations on budget requests and options in terms of policy, programs and objectives for the agency or city while ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, regulations and statutes. They are responsible for the accumulation of data to support the development of financial analysis and budgeting, including the preparation of quarterly, monthly and annual financial performance measures.

Job Description
Responsibilities:
- Direct the organization's accounting function, including ledger maintenance, payables, receivables, payroll coordination, and account reconciliations.
- Lead the annual budgeting cycle and develop multi-year forecasts that support operational priorities and future growth plans.
- Prepare and present recurring financial reports for leadership, offering analysis that supports planning and decision-making.
- Oversee the annual audit and ensure financial records, documentation, and reporting practices remain accurate, timely, and audit-ready.
- Manage cash flow, banking relationships, and reserve oversight to maintain liquidity and support responsible financial stewardship.
- Provide leadership for grant budgeting, expenditure tracking, and financial reporting while ensuring compliance with funding requirements.
- Strengthen internal controls, financial policies, and procedures to improve consistency, accountability, and scalability.
- Supervise and develop finance staff, providing direction, coaching, and quality oversight for daily operations.
- Identify process inefficiencies and implement improvements to financial systems, workflows, and related administrative support activities as organizational needs evolve. Requirements
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) credential preferred
- Demonstrated experience leading month-end close processes and maintaining accurate financial records.
- Experience with QuickBooks Online
- Strong background in financial reporting, including preparation and interpretation of monthly, quarterly, and annual statements.
- Experience managing financial statement audits and coordinating with external auditors.
- Proven ability to oversee budgets, forecasts, and cash management in a leadership capacity.
- Knowledge of grant accounting and compliance requirements tied to federal, state, or private funding sources.
- Ability to lead teams effectively while balancing strategic priorities with hands-on operational responsibilities.
