Open Until Filled This is a full-time position with the Legislative Research Council. For more information on the Legislative Research Council, please visit the LRC website. The Legislative Research Council, which is the nonpartisan research and support staff to the South Dakota State Legislature, is accepting applications for a permanent full-time Administrative Specialist. An applicant must have an interest in providing positive, high-level support to Legislative Research Council staff and South Dakota legislators, and be honest, trustworthy, and discreet.
Duties and Responsibilities:
An Administrative Specialist acts as a member of the Operations team and is responsible for performing a variety of administrative duties.
The significant duties include:
Serve as the first point of contact for all front office traffic and phone calls; Compose, edit, and distribute letters, minutes, forms, memos, legislative journals, and other legislative publications; Process payroll, travel, and per diem reimbursements; Provide support for legislative committee meetings, which includes composing, editing, and distributing meeting agendas and minutes; Conduct work in a professional, ethical, positive, and timely manner; and Perform other duties as directed.
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants should have previous administrative and secretarial experience; Knowledge of state systems such as TKS, MSAS, FSAS, and other payroll specific systems is preferred, but not required; Strong computer skills, and the ability to learn specialized systems; The ability to communicate, both orally and in writing, in a manner that clearly and efficiently conveys information to legislators and the public; The ability to remain objective and nonpartisan in relation to all legislative matters, maintain confidentiality, and handle politically sensitive work; and Ability to handle tight deadlines and extended hours during the legislative session.
Salary Range:
The salary minimum is $49,814. Actual starting salary will depend on qualifications and experience.
