The City of Bridgeport is seeking an experienced local government professional to serve as City Manager and lead a full-service municipal organization in one of Wise County's fastest growing communities. The City Manager serves as the City's chief administrative officer, appointed by and accountable to the Mayor and City Council. You will translate Council policy into action, direct daily operations across every department, and keep elected officials informed with clear, timely, and candid information. You will prepare and administer the annual budget and the capital improvement program, oversee purchasing and financial reporting, and advise the Council on the fiscal impact of policy choices. Sound financial stewardship, and the ability to explain City finances in plain language to the Council, staff, and residents, are central to the role. You will lead and develop the City's department directors and workforce, set clear performance expectations, and build a culture of accountability, responsiveness, and professional service delivery. You will guide long-range planning for infrastructure, utilities, facilities, and growth, making sure Bridgeport's capital investments keep pace with development while protecting the character residents value. You will represent Bridgeport with Wise County, Bridgeport ISD, the Chamber of Commerce, Bridgeport Economic Development Corporation, regional agencies, and state officials. The City Manager is expected to be visible and accessible in a community where relationships matter. You will engage regularly with residents and businesses, respond to concerns professionally and promptly, and attend Council meetings, community events, and the evening and weekend obligations the role requires.
Qualifications:
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
Minimum Qualifications:
Seven (7) years of progressively responsible local government management and leadership experience Bachelor s degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration, Management, Public Administration, Law, or a related field. Qualifying professional experience may substitute for the education requirement
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience serving as a City Manager, Deputy City Manager, Assistant City Manager, or in a comparable executive local government position Master s degree in Public Administration or a related field Experience leading a full-service municipality of comparable, complexity, and organizational structure Ten (10) years of progressively responsible management experience in state, local, or county government Experience establishing an Emergency Services District in
Texas Residency Requirement:
The City Manager is not required to be a resident of the City of Bridgeport at the time of appointment. However, during their tenure of office, the City Manager shall establish and maintain residency within the corporate city limits of Bridgeport.
