Job Description

The City of Jourdanton is seeking a highly qualified, experienced, and service-oriented professional to serve as its next City Manager. The City Manager serves as the chief administrative officer of the City and is responsible to the City Council for the effective administration and day-to-day operations of the City. The City Manager provides leadership and direction to City departments and employees; implements City Council policies and directives; oversees the City's financial, personnel, and administrative operations; and provides professional advice and recommendations regarding the City's current operations and future needs.

Qualifications:
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

The position is primarily performed in an office environment and requires the ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation. Duties include frequent use of computers and standard office equipment, preparation and review of documents, attendance at meetings outside normal business hours, and travel to City facilities, project sites, and other locations. The position may require occasional standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting or carrying objects weighing up to approximately 20 pounds, as well as operation of a motor vehicle and occasional travel outside the City.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The City is seeking a collaborative, accessible, and decisive leader with sound professional judgment, integrity, and a strong commitment to public service. The ideal candidate will understand the respective policy-making and administrative roles of the City Council and City Manager and will be comfortable providing candid, objective, and well-supported professional recommendations while effectively carrying out Council direction. The successful candidate should demonstrate strong leadership and organizational skills; knowledge of municipal operations, budgeting, finance, personnel, infrastructure, utilities, and development; the ability to analyze complex issues and develop practical solutions; strong written and verbal communication skills; and the ability to establish productive relationships with elected officials, employees, residents, businesses, and governmental and community partners.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor s degree required from an accredited college or university in public administration, business administration, finance, political science, or a related field. Advanced education or professional certification in public administration, municipal government, business administration, or a related field is preferred.

At least five (5) years of management experience in municipal government, public administration, or a comparable public-sector organization, including experience supervising personnel and overseeing governmental operations. Prior experience as a city manager, assistant city manager, city administrator, department director, or in a comparable local government management position is preferred. Must possess a valid Texas driver s license.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of municipal operations, public administration, budgeting, finance, personnel management, and applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Strong leadership, management, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to address infrastructure, development, and other operational needs of the City. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to identify and respond effectively to City Council and community issues, concerns, and priorities. Ability to establish effective working relationships with elected officials, employees, residents, businesses, community partners, and other governmental entities.

Ability to maintain an accessible and visible presence within the community.
