General Responsibilities:
Act as the spokesperson for Falls Church City Public Schools, providing information about the mission, goals, successes, operations, and challenges of the district. Works both inside and outside of the office to help promote good will and a positive image for the district, staff and students, preparing informational materials for release to and maintaining effective relations with the news media and the general public. Serve as the primary contact for all FOIA requests for the school district. For more information see the job description page on the FCCPS website.
Education and Experience:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in journalism or communications Considerable experience in the public sector, including public relations and technology At least 3 years of successful experience related to publishing, reporting, editing, broadcasting, or marketing, in K-12 public school setting preferred Demonstrated ability in oral and written communications Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups
Physical Requirements:
Sensory skills to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to: a personal computer, calculator, copier, fax machine and projection and video devices. Ability to engage in significant climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, or repetitive motions.
