Position Overview Rodman's is seeking a dependable, organized, and customer-focused Assistant Alcohol Purchaser to support our Senior Alcohol Buyer and help manage the daily operations of the beer, wine, and spirits department. This is a hands-on, floor-first position. The majority of the role will focus on maintaining a strong presence on the sales floor, assisting customers, stocking merchandise, organizing inventory, building displays, and making sure the department is fully prepared for business.

The Assistant Alcohol Purchaser will also support the Senior Alcohol Buyer with inventory counts, product research, order preparation, pricing, vendor communication, and other purchasing-related responsibilities. This position is designed for someone interested in learning more about retail alcohol purchasing while remaining actively involved in the daily operation of the department.

At Rodman's, beer, wine, and spirits operate as one alcohol department. Every team member is expected to assist wherever needed to keep the entire department stocked, organized, and ready for customers. Primary ResponsibilitiesSales Floor and Customer Service Maintain a consistent and visible presence throughout the beer, wine, and spirits department. Greet customers and provide friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable service. Help customers locate products and make recommendations based on their preferences, occasion, and budget. Respond promptly to customer questions, phone calls, product requests, and special-order inquiries. Make customer service the top priority, even when working with vendors, sales representatives, or coworkers. Monitor the department for empty shelves, misplaced products, incorrect pricing, and other issues that may affect the customer experience. Communicate customer requests and product feedback to the Senior Alcohol Buyer. Stocking and Department Maintenance Stock beer, wine, and spirits throughout the sales floor and storage areas. Help unload, receive, verify, and put away incoming deliveries. Keep shelves full, clean, properly faced, and organized. Rotate products using proper inventory practices and maintain orderly back-stock areas. Build and maintain displays, endcaps, seasonal features, and promotional areas. Identify low-stock and out-of-stock products and report them promptly. Notify the team when the last case of a product is brought to the sales floor or when no additional back stock remains. Report products that are damaged, incorrectly priced, or not scanning properly. Assist throughout the entire alcohol department rather than focusing only on beer, wine, or spirits. Support for the Senior Alcohol Buyer Assist with inventory counts and the preparation of suggested orders. Review shelves and back stock to help identify products that need to be reordered. Help organize sales information, product lists, invoices, pricing, and inventory records. Assist with researching new products, seasonal trends, customer requests, and competitive pricing. Communicate with distributors and sales representatives as directed by the Senior Alcohol Buyer. Help verify delivery quantities, costs, deals, shortages, and damaged merchandise. Assist with entering or updating product descriptions, costs, prices, and other information in store systems. Help prepare for vendor meetings, product presentations, tastings, and special events. Take on additional purchasing responsibilities gradually as knowledge and experience develop. Complete other projects and department responsibilities assigned by the Senior Alcohol Buyer or store management. Qualifications Previous retail, grocery, beverage, hospitality, stocking, or customer-service experience is preferred. Familiarity with wine, beer, or spirits is helpful, but a strong desire to learn is equally important. Excellent customer-service and communication skills. Strong attention to detail and organizational ability. Willingness to work actively on the sales floor and assist wherever needed. Dependable, punctual, self-motivated, and able to follow through on assigned responsibilities. Comfortable working with numbers, invoices, pricing, inventory reports, email, and spreadsheets. Able to communicate professionally with customers, coworkers, distributors, and sales representatives. Must meet all legal requirements for handling and selling alcoholic beverages in Washington, D.C. Ability to repeatedly lift and move cases weighing up to 50 pounds. Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and stock merchandise for extended periods. Availability to work a flexible retail schedule, including some evenings, weekends, and holidays.
