Job Description
Purchasing Assistant Northlake Steel is looking for a full-time purchasing assistant. This person will assist the purchaser in procuring steel, machine parts, maintenance & custodial supplies, and office supplies. This person will spend a significant amount of time on the phone with vendors and can expect a heavy volume of emails daily. On site Monday - Friday, 8am-5pm, Business attire $50,000-$55,000/year Health, dental, vision, short-term and long-term disability, term life, 401(k) matching, 6 paid holidays, vacation and personal time.
Job Duties:
- Solicits competitive price and delivery quotations from suppliers on raw material, services, and supplies.
- Selects low-cost suppliers, keeping in mind quality and delivery requirements.
- Enters purchase orders into computer system and distributes appropriate paperwork.
- Handles maintenance, repairs, and operations (MRO) purchasing.
- Creates work orders for outside processing.
- Expedites all orders weekly and keeps all records (incl. o/s processing work orders) updated as to changes.
- Communicates any changes in order status to appropriate personnel.
- Maintains updated price and lead time schedules for raw material and outside processing.
- Receives steel from mill and outside processors.
- Reviews inventory before placing a mill or service center order to determine if there is existing stock/reserve material to use.
- Provides market and supplier activity information to management for weekly management meeting and annual business plan.
- Maintains approved supplier log (ISO 9001).
- Knows and follows Northlake Steel Corporation's Quality Policy and Procedures.
- Handles defective material or processing claims in accordance with Corrective Action Procedure.
- Actively participates in weekly production meeting - noting purchase order revisions and updating group on supplier news (i.e. lead times, shutdowns, surcharge adjustments, etc.).
- Provides office support as needed.
- Maintains an established filing system.

- Problem solving skills Education and Experience required:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- A degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field OR 2+ years' experience in B2B manufacturing purchasing required
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, (Excel, Outlook) required
- Experience in online sales or procurement of used parts on eBay and similar sites is preferred
