Field Operations Assistant Essential Design Innovator Garden Grove, CA Job Details Full-time $25 - $30 an hour 3 hours ago Qualifications Computer operation Spanish Outdoor work experience Computer literacy Spreadsheets English Driver's License Driving Productivity software Mobile devices Full Job Description About Essential Design Innovator Essential Design Innovator is a design-build general contractor serving homeowners across Orange County and greater Los Angeles. We take residential projects from drawings and permits through construction, ADUs, additions, remodels, new homes, solar, and related site work, with a lean field team and a turnkey approach. The company runs multiple jobs at once. This hire will work directly with the owner to keep those sites moving, keep quality tight, and keep crews and vendors accountable. About the Role We are hiring a Field Operations Assistant to support the owner across residential construction projects in Orange County and Los Angeles County. This is a field-first role. Most of the workday is spent on jobsites: walking work, coordinating trades, checking quality, keeping production moving, and reporting facts back to the owner. The role also includes cross-functional office support so materials, time, photos, inspections, and vendor follow-up stay current. The person in this seat works closely with the owner and is expected to take ownership when the owner is not on site. That means setting a clear standard, giving direct instructions, and holding subcontractors and laborers accountable for quality, pace, safety, and housekeeping — consistently and professionally. Key Responsibilities Visit multiple jobsites daily across Orange County and Los Angeles County and serve as the owner's on-site point of contact. Walk work in progress, identify quality issues, safety hazards, and schedule risks, and correct or escalate them promptly. Give clear work direction to subcontractors, vendors, and laborers in English and Spanish. Hold crews accountable to agreed quality, production, cleanliness, and safety standards. Address poor performance promptly, factually, and professionally. Coordinate deliveries, rentals, inspections, site access, and trade sequencing so crews are not waiting on materials or information. Document daily progress with photos, notes, and issue logs. Provide concise owner updates on what moved, what is blocked, and what was resolved. Support office operations tied to field work: time tracking by project, receipts, vendor calls, permit and inspection status, and basic job-cost follow-up. Meet inspectors, owners' representatives, and trades on site as needed and translate field conditions into next steps. Protect company time and money by flagging incomplete work, scope gaps, unsafe conditions, and vendors who are not performing. Other related field and office duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Fluent bilingual communication in English and Spanish, spoken and written. This is a job-related requirement because the role includes daily direction of Spanish-speaking field crews and vendors. Hands-on experience on residential or light-commercial construction sites (new construction, remodel, ADU, multifamily, or similar) preferred. Valid driver's license, reliable personal vehicle, current auto insurance, and ability to travel between OC and LA jobsites during the workday. Ability to work independently, prioritize across multiple sites, and communicate status to the owner without close supervision. Working ability to read residential plan sets (layouts, dimensions, elevations, and obvious conflicts) preferred. Comfort using a smartphone and basic computer tools for photos, text/email, shared folders, and simple spreadsheets or timekeeping apps. Ability to perform the essential physical functions listed below, with or without reasonable accommodation. Authorization to work in the United States. We participate in lawful work-authorization verification and do not discriminate on the basis of citizenship or immigration status except as required by law. Preferred Qualifications Prior experience as a working foreman, construction assistant, project assistant, or similar field lead. Experience coordinating Spanish-speaking labor and subcontractors on Southern California jobsites. Familiarity with typical Orange County and Los Angeles city permitting and inspection processes preferred. OSHA 10 or OSHA 30, first aid/CPR, or equivalent safety training. Experience with project-based timekeeping, material tracking, or basic job costing.
Broad trade literacy:
demolition, framing, MEP rough-in, insulation, drywall, finishes, and exterior work preferred. Working Conditions and Physical Requirements This position is performed primarily outdoors on active construction sites. Essential functions include, with or without reasonable accommodation: Walking unfinished sites, climbing stairs, and occasionally using ladders or scaffolding under site safety rules. Standing and walking for extended periods; occasional lifting, carrying, or moving of materials up to 50 pounds. Working in heat, dust, noise, and changing weather typical of Southern California jobsites. Driving between jobsites during the workday. Early start times and occasional weekend or after-hours work when inspections, deliveries, or production require it. We will provide reasonable accommodation to qualified applicants and employees with disabilities unless doing so would create an undue hardship.
