POSITION/TITLE
SCHEDULER/Part Time/ 20 hrs

Chief Operating Officer (COO) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Under the directions of the department supervisors: Book and schedule paratransit appointments using computerized scheduling system. This process includes the following steps:
  • Reservations
  • Taking customer trip requests, scheduling the trip, or, if the request does not easily fit onto a schedule, placing the trip in the program's "holding pen" to be scheduled at a later time. If the request must be denied, record the trip denial in the computer database.
  • Scheduling
  • Assigning reserved trips to buses in a manner to produce efficient daily paratransit schedules.
  • Optimization
  • Performed by one scheduler during an assigned period, reviewing the next day's schedules for all buses, placing trips in holding into the schedule whenever possible, and, when possible, reassigning previously-scheduled trips to optimize service performance. Print following day's schedules after optimization.
  • Customer Call-Backs
  • Calling to advise customers whose trips were in holding of the status of their trips or to notify passengers if their pick-up time must be changed.
  • Database maintenance
  • Maintaining computerized scheduling system database, including client database, daily bookings, daily schedules, ADA trip designation, no-shows, cancellations, and trip denials.
Maintain and promote courteous and respectful relations with customers over the telephone. Disseminate transit district information to customers in courteous and effective manner over the telephone. Monitor radio base station and provide operators with assistance and directions as needed. Communicate effectively over the radio with all operators and management staff. Refer road calls, accidents, passenger problems, and operator needs to Operations Supervisor(s), Training Supervisor, and maintenance staff. Refer customer complaints to management staff. Answer all telephone lines, distribute telephone calls to proper person, and disseminate accurate transit information to the public. Maintain paratransit manifest files. Collect and tabulate paratransit ridership, vehicle fuel usage and mileage on a monthly basis. Attend training and staff meetings as scheduled. Orient newly hired schedulers to department. Perform other duties as assigned by Operations Supervisor(s), Training Supervisor(s), or Operations Manager.
Qualifications :
High school graduate or equivalent experience. A minimum of three years in a similar position preferred. Working knowledge of Danbury and the surrounding towns. Individual must be organized, punctual, and familiar with office equipment and have proficient computer skills. Professional attitude and courtesy must be expressed at all times to other staff and the public. Excellent telephone skills. Experience with proficient use of automatic scheduling and dispatching software or other programs of similar complexity highly desirable.
Hours:
Monday-7am to 4pm w 1 hour lunch/ Tuesday&Wednesday-10am to 4pm/w-additional & expanded hours to cover additional shifts.
