Job Description

The Orthopedic Center is a fast paced multi specialty practice providing orthopedics, podiatry and physical therapy in two locations; Palm Bay and Merritt Island. We are seeking the right individual to work full time in the Palm Bay office. The perfect candidate exhibits excellent customer service, compassion, empathy and attention to detail. This position is Monday -Friday 7:30 AM- 4:30 PM
JOB SUMMARY
: The surgery scheduler is responsible for scheduling patients for surgery for one or more providers, pre-admission testing, follow up on medical clearance, assistance with pre-certification and reviewing meds and health history, while supporting the patients with exceptional care. Surgery Scheduler will help prepare and educate patients for their pre-operative procedures, answer and return phone calls, coordinate operating rooms and the appropriate surgeons/assistants. The surgical scheduler will also work closely with the medical assistant(s) to assist with administrative duties to ensure the clinic runs smoothly and that patients receive and utilize satisfactory clinical services.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Schedule new and established appointments for surgical procedures. Coordinate and schedule operating rooms, surgeons, assistants, device reps, preop clearances, post op therapies and appointments as needed. Completes necessary paperwork for surgical facility as required. Enters and completes all required information in surgery scheduling app and Epic Carelink Completes insurance verification for procedures involving the surgery. Contacts insurance companies to initiate authorizations process for surgeries and secures authorizations Assist patients with financial counseling and ensure all patient's deductibles, coinsurance and copays are collected prior to surgery. Review patient's medication and health history to determine pre-admission testing. Schedule appropriate medical clearance tests as needed. Relay instructions to patients/families; educate patients by providing procedure instructions; answering questions. Must be able to recognize and respond appropriately to urgent/emergent situations per protocols. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with physicians, staff, and management. Books surgeries based on physician volume maintaining appropriate standard turn-around times. Assist with clinics when surgery scheduling and admin completed. Assist physician, staff, and front office with administrative tasks regarding all surgical processes and procedures. Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION and
QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or GED certificate. 2 years experience in outpatient/private practice clinic environment; orthopedic preferred. Familiar with ICD 10 codes for pre-certification and surgical procedures. Excellent customer (patient) service skills and telephone manner with the ability to maintain that demeanor when dealing with difficult, frightened, and/or impatient persons. Ability to flexibly respond to changing demands with requests and schedules. Familiarity with computers, office equipment, and medical/insurance software. Exhibit high level of quality through attention to detail and monitoring of work. Possession of strong organizational skills. Ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as to accept direction on given assignments. Possession of strong problem-solving skills and sound judgment. Ability to be proactive and take initiative.
