TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS
: Requires sitting for long periods of time. Working in office environment. Some bending, stretching and reaching required to accomplish duties. Working under stress and use of telephone required. Must have manual dexterity to write legibly, perform required procedures and for use of calculator, computer keyboard and office equipment. Must be able to move about the office in confined areas.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
: Normal office environment. Occasional evening or weekend work.
Examples of Duties:
(This list may not include all duties assigned.) Schedule surgeries when doctor s staff calls to schedule. Input pertinent information into case history from patient charts. Code pain management procedures and enter the
CPT/ICD-9
codes into case history for insurance filing. Make sure that an operative note is printed for every pain management procedure that is done and given to doctor to sign. Assist out side Anesthesia billing group in getting information needed for filing of their insurance claims. Assist the pre-certification department as needed. Assist the front desk as needed for checking in patients and filing. Assist other personnel in the performance of their duties as assigned and as workload permits. Function as a relief for other personnel in the office, as appropriate and to facilitate co-worker s taking time off. Prioritize work received and complete in a timely manner. Performs other work duties and assignments as required.
PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Must have knowledge and ability in medical office procedures and a knowledge of coding and the ability to use the necessary coding books and materials. Knowledge of medical billing/collection practices as well as insurance company operating procedures and practices as they relate. Knowledge of medical coding, CPT and ICD-9 codes. Knowledge of insurance company procedures and practices. Skill with computer applications and use of calculator. Ability to deal courteously with patients, co-workers and others. Ability to communicate clearly and follow written and oral instructions.
EDUCATION
: High School Diploma or GED Must be able to perform tasks (e.g. speaking, writing, and spelling) at a level normally performed by someone with a high school education as demonstrated by past performance. Must be familiar with CPT and ICD-9 codes, either through education or experience and have 6 months experience as a Coding Specialist.
