Job Description

Scheduler Position Summary Schedules procedures in an orderly, timely and efficient manner. Adapts the schedule to meet the needs of patient and physician and to utilize the department time and personnel to maximum efficiency. Obtains insurance information from patient or physician office. Obtains all necessary pre-certification information. Minimum Qualifications Work Experience One year of medical office/healthcare experience required. Significant exposure to medical terminology preferred. Education High school graduate or equivalent preferred. Certifications/Licensure None required. Job Specific Performance Standards The duties listed below are a summary of the major essential functions of this position. The position may require other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned, and specific functions may change from time to time. Answers telephone in a courteous manner identifying self and department. Records procedure requests, schedules patients and maintains accurate logs of scheduled procedures. Notifies facility staff of cancellation and/or rescheduled procedures or additions. Contacts the physicians offices with any change or cancellations of their patients exams and re-schedules. Obtains sufficient insurance information of each patient in scheduling for Pre-Registration personnel. Plans, organizes, and develops the scheduling area to include logs and scheduling books. Updates and alters forms as needed for better understanding and efficiency. Establishes good lines of communication in an effective and courteous manner with hospital departments and physicians offices, responding to questions and complaints on a same-day basis. Distributes reports to physicians as needed.
