The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd | 533 E. Main Street | Lexington, KY Position Summary The Operations Coordinator serves as an extension of the office of the Director of Operations & Finance. Responsibilities of the position include assisting in all aspects of hospitality, facilities, logistics, and HR operations. The historic Good Shepherd Episcopal Church is located near downtown Lexington on East Main Street, located in the Bell Court neighborhood. The parish gathers an average of 350 in-person worshippers on Sundays, and is home to 130 students and 50 staff for the Good Shepherd Day School, which operates throughout the year. The church celebrated the centennial of its neo-gothic sanctuary in 2025, and includes an administrative wing, day school building, and two large homes used for parish and school activities situated on Sayre Avenue. The parish is entering into the construction phase of an $8 million, 3,500 square foot parish hall addition, which will add much needed gathering and activity space, and a new kitchen facility. The Operations Coordinator reports to the Director of Operations & Finance. Key Responsibilities Facility Maintenance & Operations Coordinates day-to-day maintenance of church buildings, grounds, and equipment Develops and successfully implements Preventive Maintenance Programs (PM) for key systems Coordinates routine maintenance, repairs, and inspections Ensures HVAC, electrical, plumbing, lighting, and safety systems are properly maintained Maintains cleanliness standards in coordination with custodial staff or volunteers Identifies cost savings and efficiency improvement tactics and practices Maintains accurate and up-to-date records Manages and maintains online events calendar, and reviews and schedules events and activities Coordinates upkeep and logistics for the Columbarium (memorial garden) Supervises full time custodian (Parish Sexton) Safety & Compliance Facilitates regular safety inspections and address hazards promptly Manages emergency preparedness procedures (fire, weather, power outages, etc.) Maintains documentation related to inspections, permits, and warranties Vendor & Contractor Management Coordinates outside contractors and service providers Obtains quotes, schedules work, and monitors work quality and cost-effectiveness Monitors vendor contracts and service agreements Hospitality and Event & Ministry Support Coordinates preparation of facilities for worship services, church programs, weddings, funerals, and special events Coordinates room setups, equipment needs, and post-event cleanup Works closely with ministry leaders to support program needs Budgeting & Inventory Assists with facilities budget planning and expense tracking Monitors office supplies and orders inventory as needed Monitors supply inventory and orders materials as needed Recommends capital improvements and long-term maintenance planning Leadership & Communication Communicates regularly with the Director of Operations & Finance regarding facilities needs and priorities Participates in weekly staff meetings HR Assists with new employee paperwork and onboarding processes Maintains HR records as needed Qualifications Bachelors Degree Required 3-5 years of experience in areas such as operations, management, logistics, and administration (church or nonprofit experience a plus) Fluent in personal computing and web based navigation including, email, and Microsoft and Google suite tools Desire to grow and learn in a high energy environment Detail oriented Ability to manage multiple tasks and respond to urgent issues Strong organizational and communication skills Ability to work some evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed Physical Requirements & Hours Some lifting and movement of supplies (boxes or objects up to 30 pounds) Occasional ability to move, set up, and break down folding tables chairs and fixtures Weekly M-F office hours, plus some evening and early morning work is required, along with occasional hours on weekends as needed Personal & Spiritual Expectations Support and model the mission, vision, and values of the church.
