Job Description
Manufacturing Production SchedulerPosition Overview The Manufacturing Production Scheduler is responsible for developing and maintaining an effective production schedule that maximizes throughput, minimizes lead times and inventory, and ensures on-time delivery. This role translates demand forecasts and sales orders into a Master Production Schedule (MPS), executes MRP/finite capacity runs, coordinates materials and shop orders across ERP systems, and works cross-functionally to resolve constraints and drive continuous improvement in planning and production performance.
Key ResponsibilitiesCreate, maintain and communicate the Master Production Schedule (MPS) based on demand forecasts, customer orders and inventory targets.
Execute Materials Requirements Planning (MRP / MRP II) and finite capacity scheduling runs to generate shop orders and recommended purchase orders.
Manage work order / shop order release, sequencing and prioritization to meet delivery commitments while optimizing capacity utilization and throughput.
Coordinate with procurement, suppliers and vendors to ensure timely availability of raw materials and components; follow up on open purchase orders and expedite as needed.
Use ERP and APS systems (examples: JD Edwards, Microsoft Dynamics, NetSuite, Oracle, SAP PP, Quintiq, Siemens Preactor, PlanetTogether) to maintain accurate BOMs, routings and inventory records.
Perform Capacity Requirements Planning (CRP) and adjust schedules for work center constraints, shift patterns and planned maintenance to minimize disruption.
Calculate and validate lead times, safety stock and reorder points; update planning parameters based on actual performance and demand variability.
Monitor shop floor progress, resolve production issues and coordinate with Production Control, Quality and Maintenance teams to reduce downtime and changeover (SMED).Analyze production data, cycle times and OEE metrics to identify bottlenecks, propose improvements and support root cause analysis and corrective actions (SPC, DMAIC).Prepare regular production reporting and KPI dashboards (on-time delivery, schedule attainment, inventory turns, capacity utilization) using Advanced Excel, VBA, SQL and visualization tools such as Power BI or Tableau.
Support Lean and JIT initiatives including Kanban, sequencing and waste reduction to improve flow and reduce lead times.
Collaborate with Sales, Supply Chain, Engineering and Logistics to align priorities, communicate schedule changes and support new product introductions and routing/BOM updates.
QualificationsBachelors degree in Supply Chain, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Operations Management or related field, or equivalent experience.3+ years of hands-on experience in production scheduling, materials planning or production control in a manufacturing environment; experience with discrete or process manufacturing preferred.
Proven experience with Master Production Schedule (MPS), MRP / MRP II and finite capacity scheduling principles.
Hands-on experience with ERP and planning systems such as JD Edwards, Microsoft Dynamics, NetSuite, Oracle or SAP PP; familiarity with APS and scheduling tools (Quintiq, Siemens Preactor, PlanetTogether) strongly preferred.
Strong technical skills in Advanced Excel (pivot tables, Power Query), Excel VBA / macros, SQL for reporting and experience building dashboards in Power BI or Tableau.
Solid understanding of BOM management, routings, work order management, lead time calculation, safety stock and reorder point methodologies.
Experience implementing or supporting Lean Manufacturing, Kanban, JIT, SMED and continuous improvement methods; Six Sigma / DMAIC experience a plus.
Knowledge of production performance measurement including OEE tracking, throughput optimization and statistical process control (SPC).Excellent analytical, problem-solving and root cause analysis skills with attention to detail and ability to make data-driven decisions.
Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills; ability to influence production, procurement and engineering stakeholders.
Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, manage competing priorities and support shift scheduling or off-hours coordination as required.
