Catholic Charities of Shiawassee and Genesee Counties is looking for a dependable, compassionate, and organized individual to join our team at the North End Soup Kitchen. This hands-on position combines cooking, kitchen operations, office administration, and volunteer coordination. You will help keep our soup kitchen running smoothly by preparing meals, supporting daily kitchen activities, coordinating volunteers, and handling administrative responsibilities. We are looking for someone who is comfortable taking the lead in the kitchen when needed and willing to jump in whenever help is needed. What You'll Be Doing Cooking & Kitchen Operations Prepare, cook, and serve meals for individuals and families visiting the North End Soup Kitchen. Serve as the primary cook when needed, independently preparing meals and coordinating meal service. Help plan and organize daily meal preparation to ensure meals are ready on time. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized kitchen while following food safety and sanitation procedures. Monitor kitchen supplies and communicate food and supply needs to the Community Services Director. Work alongside staff and volunteers to ensure daily meal service runs smoothly. Help oversee soup kitchen operations when the Community Services Director is unavailable. Office & Administrative Support Answer phones, maintain records, and assist with general administrative tasks. Maintain accurate records for volunteers, community service workers, and program participants. Coordinate volunteer schedules and help ensure adequate coverage. Track office supplies and communicate purchasing needs. Assist with donation records, receipts, timesheets, and vendor paperwork. Provide administrative support to the Community Services Director. Volunteer & Community Support Welcome and assist volunteers, community service workers, and individuals receiving services. Organize volunteer groups and assign daily tasks, including kitchen duties. Assist with special events and community outreach activities. Work with other team members to keep programs running smoothly. What We're Looking For We understand that not everyone has experience in both cooking and office administration. We are looking for someone who is dependable, organized, comfortable working in a kitchen, and willing to learn. High school diploma or GED, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience preparing and cooking meals, preferably for groups or in a commercial kitchen. Ability to independently prepare meals and manage kitchen activities when needed. At least one year of clerical or administrative experience, preferably in a community service or nonprofit setting. Computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Strong organizational and communication skills; ability to manage multiple responsibilities and direct volunteers. Dependable, flexible, compassionate approach to working with people from different backgrounds. Ability to lift and move up to 35 pounds. Additional Requirements Availability to work some weekends and holidays. ServSafe Manager certification or willingness to obtain it within 30 days of hire. Successful completion of required background and clearance checks. Pay & Benefits Hourly pay of $13.73 - $16.70, based on qualifications and experience.
