Answers the telephone and directs calls to the appropriate person. Schedules surgical appointments, greets, instructs and directs patients. Position serves as a liaison between patient and medical support staff.RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO, THE FOLLOWING
Answers multiple telephone lines, schedules patient appointments, screens calls, takes messages and provides general information to callers as needed. Maintaining MDs calendar. Schedules all surgical procedures with hospitals and/or Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASC). Coordinates anesthesia, neuro monitoring and hardware reps. Issues out-patient material. Responsible for ensuring that all surgical patients are given oral and/or written instructions regarding the upcoming procedure and hospital policies and procedures. Verifies insurance coverage to ascertain deductible and coinsurance amounts, obtaining precertification/authorization for surgeries, MRI's, EMG's, specialty injections, and other services as needed. Notifies patients of expected financial responsibility that will be due at the time of service. Provides explicit instructions to patients regarding time of arrival, place of service, and documentation necessary for office visits. Enters benefits and precertification/authorization into EMR system (Referral Management). Coordinates with referring physician offices when necessary to pre-authorize services. Attends scheduled staff meetings. Availability to work in the office setting Monday-Friday. Covers other schedulers when they are out.REQUIREMENTS EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma/GED required.QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Experience with Centricity/Phoenix EMR is a plus. MUST be proficient in obtaining insurance prior-authorizations. MUST have 1 years of direct surgery scheduling experience. Computer literate, with strong keyboard skills and experience with electronic medical records system. Background in medical terminology, Orthopedics/Spine, and ability to analyze medical situations for scheduling purposes preferred. Familiarity with various health insurance plans and benefit eligibility processes preferred. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Pleasant speaking voice and demeanor, with strong customer service skills. Neat, professional appearance. Ability to multitask and excel in high pressure situations.
