Job Description

Role Summary The core skill this role is built around is the ability to accurately diagnose problems — with hardware and software — and work them through to resolution or a clean escalation. This is a true entry-level, hands-on role reporting to the Operations Manager, structured around two core functions first: customer facing technical troubleshooting/diagnostics and internal quality assurance/quality control, with inventory coordination and general operations support layered in as the role grows. Because the application of this technology is niche, we are not hiring for prior operations experience — we are hiring for the innate ability to logically diagnose problems: someone who naturally works a problem down to its root cause rather than defaulting to outside support. About Us Digitalis Education Solutions, Inc. is the leading producer of digital planetarium systems around the world. These immersive simulators are used for astronomy, Earth science, data visualization, and other mostly educational purposes. Key Responsibilities Technical Support (Diagnostics) Serve as a first point of customer contact for diagnosing issues with dome, projection, and control hardware, working alongside appropriate technical advisors. Diagnose software issues surfaced during testing or reported by the Production and Support teams, narrowing down root cause before escalating. Log diagnostic steps and outcomes in our ticketing system so issues and patterns can be tracked over time. Escalate issues beyond scope to the appropriate team member with clear notes on what's already been tried. QA/QC Follow checklists to verify proper assembly of Digitalis components (computers, LED pointers, domes, and related hardware). Perform quality control on sales orders assembled by Production before they ship. Run structured software test passes on our planetarium software ahead of releases, following guidance from the development team. Coordinate with Production and Development on process and product improvements identified through QC and testing. Inventory Conduct and maintain accurate physical and system inventory counts. Accurately receive inventory shipments. General Operations Provide logistical and administrative support for scheduled installs. Assist Production and Support staff to keep materials and equipment ready ahead of scheduled work. Assist the Operations Manager with day-to-day administrative and coordination tasks. Participate in operational process improvement as the team scales. Qualifications Required Demonstrated ability to diagnose problems systematically — narrowing down root cause rather than guessing at fixes — through hobbies, self-directed learning, or prior experience. Comfortable getting hands-on with hardware and software to figure out what's actually wrong before escalating. No prior professional experience required — training is provided on our systems and equipment. Strong attention to detail, particularly with QC checklists and inventory records. Organized and able to manage multiple concurrent tasks with competing deadlines. Preferred Any hands-on hobby or background involving tech, electronics, AV, gaming hardware, or DIY/making — especially troubleshooting or repair experience. Comfortable following structured test scripts and QC checklists. Background in a manufacturing, technical products, AV/technical installation, or small-team operations environment. What Success Looks Like in the First 90 Days Demonstrated ability to independently and efficiently diagnose and resolve, or properly escalate, basic hardware and software issues. Comfortable running QC checklists on produced components and sales orders with minimal supervision. Comfortable running a structured software test pass and logging results. Inventory records for at least one major product line are counted and verified. Physical Job Requirements Must be able to sit or stand for long periods at a computer. Must be able to move self and equipment up and down stairs. Must be able to use a computer keyboard and mouse for extended periods of time. Must be able to periodically lift up to 50 pounds of material weight. Must have average hearing capable of using a phone with or without the use of aids.
